Your quarterly reminder that journalism costs money.

Specifically, making court documents available as part of my reporting — which I consider essential for all journalists to do — costs money.

This evening, as communities across Washington state are reeling from historic flooding, DOE issued an emergency order directing continued operation of a Washington coal plant that would have closed by the end of the year due to a new state law banning coal-powered electricity generation.

I invite you to ask yourself why the language of protestors has been a terrifying daily concern, but e.g. successive governments giving the US unlimited use of our airbases to fly a gajillion dollars of weapons of destruction into Israel for use on huge numbers of civilians is not concerning at all.

It's easy. Going into an indoor public place? Put on the mask!
A lot of people are sick right now.

Flu and Covid are raging, but the good news is a well fitted respirator can prevent both!

A good mask like an N95 is very effective at stopping flu and Covid.

My article looks at how to choose one, how to fit test, where to buy & more.

Mask up & save lives!
We’re Witnessing the Fall of Public Health… and Your Best Tool is a Mask
Measles in Texas, bird flu in Louisiana, tuberculosis in Kansas and Covid everywhere. Public health has been dying a slow death for years, we can’t count on it anymore. What can we count on? A mask!

AOC: I want to remind you where the real crime is. It's in the oligarchs taking $170 billion of our money from health care and food assistance and public programs and taking that and funneling it into a secret police program.

Trump: "If you go back 10, 12, 15 years ago at the most, the strongest lobby in Washington was the Jewish lobby. It was Israel. That's no longer true. You have to be very careful. You have a Congress in particular which is becoming antisemitic. You have AOC plus three, you have those people."

I embedded with Stephen Schneider at NCAR for Ice Time (1989). I met Walt Roberts, NCAR’s 1st director.

This is a fucking travesty & so stupid that the perpetrators achieve the full Ivins: they need to be watered twice a day.

The GOP/Trump are destroying what it used to mean to be a civilization.
An absolute bedrock institution for understanding how the planet works, just civilization-scaled vandalism by the most incurious morons on Earth

If “dicking around” means “Moby-Dick jokes” then yes that is why I primarily post on text-based social media
i have said this before but if you are actually interested in influencing people beyond a narrow circle of too-online journalists you will be making direct to camera videos on tiktok, instagram and youtube. if you primarily post on text-based social media then you're just dicking around.

If, as according to New York Times,…

…a radioisotope thermoelectric generator (RTG) (like what CIA lost trying to monitor Chinese missiles) is a “nuclear device”…

…then so is every clock & instrument dial using radioluminescent (radium, tritium, promethium) paint (use decay energy to do work).

So I have five kids. One goes to middle school and rides the bus. Three go to elementary school and occasionally do. One isn’t in school yet. That combo, plus before-school activities and a quarter mile walk to the bus stop from our house, means morning bus often makes no sense.
Why the fuck is everybody dropping off their kid at school personally like a little chauffeur? Put them on the fucking bus, you're not a fuckin driver. You're not a fucking slave.

Or rather, all too believable. If you want to suppress all knowledge of how a relatively small number are enriching themselves by destroying our shared home then this destruction, following on the heels of the funding freeze for the national Climate Adaptation Science Centers, is completely logical.
Trump officials shut off funding for climate adaptation centers
A third of the U.S. Geological Survey’s Climate Adaptation Science Centers are expected to drastically wind down and possibly close after Sept. 30.

NCAR is quite literally our global mothership.

Everyone who works in climate and weather has passed through its doors and benefited from its incredible resources.

Dismantling NCAR is like taking a sledgehammer to the keystone holding up our scientific understanding of the planet.

Unbelievable.
