All they have to do and this is not saying that its right is to make the operation of the venuzelan government impossible. Taking our fuel and power distribution. Would make that the case. Taking control of ports would make that the case. Forcing Maduro to go underground would make that the case.
The military buildup in the Caribbean is substantial but still nowhere near what it would take to plausibly effect a regime change. Venezuela isn't Grenada or Panama. Apparently they're just ramping up for a bombing campaign, maybe some special forces nonsense, but that won't dislodge Maduro.

What a good-faith, credible negotiating partner
Putin: Russia will keep expanding its “buffer zone” in Ukraine and place the new “Oreshnik” system on combat duty by year-end. He claimed the goals of the war “will absolutely be achieved,” warning: “We prefer diplomacy, but if the West refuses, we’ll liberate our historical lands militarily.”

Right. Speaking just as an ordinary person: when I was 18, Russia invaded Ukraine. I then spent the next eight years trying to convince various Western friends and comrades that we are in danger of them going further. No one listened, lots of people took me unseriously, many mocked me. Guess what
the word 'gaslighting' gets thrown around a lot, but a neighbor of the expansionist warmongering dictator worrying that the dictator might expand their war to one's home is not crazy.

War happens when they happen because people whants them to happen and when the things neaded to wage war is in place. Time constraints like midterms next year creates an short window for trump to do it.

The window of opportunity is the dangerous time.
Everyone wants to make “sense” of things, but we are all currently hostage to an irrationalist epistemic environment. You might as well just read the entrails of a slaughtered goat to divine where events are headed.

Because you’re Hungarian you have the right to lie about what I think? Is that your serious claim? Weirdest appropriation of identity politics yet!

Now tell me: did Hungary fall into Russia’s sphere of influence because it was invaded, or because the far right is in power?

I'm saying that if Russia has struggled to invade eastern Ukraine then it is not going to get anywhere in Poland, is it?

Your second point is bizarre. Zelensky's opponent was an anti-Russian hardliner? In 2010, eastern Ukraine voted overwhelmingly for Viktor Yanukovych.

Also in practice a more viable medium-term goal. NATO was always going to be somewhat reluctant to grant full membership to a state with some territory occupied by another, whereas the EU has shown willingness to find a way around that - see Cyprus.
A cynical part of my has long supposed that Ukraine in NATO was always a chip to be traded away, but the real issue is Ukraine in the EU, which is much more important to Ukraine's future.

The EU *also* has a mutual defense clause (Art. 42.7), though if I were Ukraine, I'd want tripwire in any case.
There are reports Zelensky may say Ukr is dropping NATO aspirations. Given that the US is blocking Ukr for NATO and may abandon NATO, this is realism. But when Ru says "good, but we want XYZ also" it will confirm for the nteenth time that Ru doesn't care about NATO; it wants to subjugate Ukraine.
