Even if they had their own reasons for it, ending the Cambodian Genocide is honestly the finest hour of Vietnamese history, all the more so when you consider they were still a global pariah to the level that China, the US and UK joined forces to support *the genocidaires* against them!
I mean yes, but also, 'Vietnam will align against China when the chips are down' should have been obvious to every U.S. policymaker responsible for the war and the first gen of policymakers after and it never was. We supported the Khmer Rouge govt in exile just to continue to be dicks to Vietnam.
