I posted this earlier today half jokingly:

There should be some kind of hardship compensation for elder-care workers forced to endure Fox or Newsmax all day against their will by their clients' viewing habits. Often at obnoxiously loud volumes. I know; I live with one such worker.

They got dozens of reporters on the motorcade, but
I’m almost alone on my beat—caregiving, nursing homes, the cost and strain on families. Real stuff. Something’s very wrong with this biz.

My industry has lost the plot. There seems to be a gigantic hole for coverage of the way life has shifted since the pandemic, of Long Covid, of the dismantling of rights at the state level, and news execs are like “We heard you! Here’s why showing you every angle of Hunter Biden’s penis matters.”

This is the 1st wave of Covid we’re experiencing without any public health measures.
Vaccines can’t save you from infection with current variants, treatments are becoming less effective, & long Covid is a 1 in 10 loaded weapon.
The security community is failing at risk management

Did not have purple-haired white lady screaming disabled people shouldn’t be out in public at Spokane, WA’s Olive Garden bathroom on my 2023 list. What’s sad - I was relieved my race didn’t enter the tirade overheard by the whole restaurant. Quit using disabled stalls as a damned phone/video booth!

don't be ashamed of bringing your jokes over from twitter and repotting them, you wrote them and they're not doing anyone any good over there

if Black people don’t feel safe on a platform, NO marginalized group will. I will not feel safe here as an AAPI trans person when this place opens up, federation be damned.

When a company is lazy in preventing low hanging racism (ie: a word blocklist), I’m always reminded of the benefits of having diverse teams (if people are genuinely listened to).

So familiar with this from Disabled spaces.

"Competing access needs".

No. Conflicting, maybe. Incompatible, maybe.

But everyone's needs matter and there have to be ways to make sure everyone's needs are met.

It's work, but it's not impossible. We just have to want to make it happen.

Something very strange is happening to the Web. Finding something from the past on search engines is eroding. Atemporality replaced by an immediate, constantly vanishing, consumerist hyper-present. What we thought was an infinite Borges-ian library turning into Amazon checkout with a ticking clock…
Google is changing up search. What does that mean for news publishers?
A shift to AI-generated search results will decrease the traffic that Google sends to publishers' sites, as more people get what they need straight from the Google search page instead.
