Not as interesting as I used to be, but I can still keep myself entertained.

I haven't read this one yet, but I hope to soon. I read the first book in this series and quite enjoyed it. I expect nothing less in the next! I suggest you pick up both!

Maybe you want a quiet, safe space to escape for a while. I wrote about an English cottage in the north—amid Heath and hills. A cozy village murder—a cranky detective—an autistic book editor turned amateur sleuth. Discounted on BookShop:

We often forget how little $5 really is it disappears on a coffee, a snack, or something we don’t even remember. But for someone hungry or fighting to survive, that same $5 can mean a warm meal or the strength to make it through another day.
Please if your heart still feels, help us survive
👇
This is a mother’s plea from Gaza
My daughter Alma is fading from hunger, her cries breaking my heart. We have no food, and no way to ease her pain
Your compassion could bring her a meal or medicine she desperately needs. Please, help my girl survive

When you live in a duplex and your neighbour's side is on fire and no one is doing much about it, I think it's fair to have something to say about it. Fire spreads. If Americans would put out their fire, Canadians would mind their business.

Almost daily someone wants to tell me that I should mind my own business and stay out of US "politics". So almost daily I have to remind them that Trumpism affects global economics, environment and peace. I'll do what every concerned global citizen should do. I'll express my opinion. Loudly.

I love it when folks I know irl who are very clearly autistic but don't know it, realize they are and share it. I wonder if anyone I know was like, "Yes! They figured it out! Good for them," when I realised I am and started talking about it. Finding out changed my life.

Ben MacIntire's book, The Spy and the Traitor: The Greatest Espionage Story of the Cold War, fits the bill for this type of reader.

It's as good as, or better than, your favourite cold war fiction. An absolutely fantastic story and a very engaging and exciting read! One of my top 5 reads this year.
hell yeah - I love non-fiction in theory but my attention span is What It Is *but* I also don't like it when I feel like I'm being condescended to so I need some books which are fiction-level paced and never feel stodgy but they must also feel clever and engaging - topic basically irrelevant

I'm so tired and so hungry. I just opened a huge can of soup, filled my largest bowl, opened the microwave, clipped the bowl on the edge of the microwave, dumped the entire bowl on and under the tray. Turned around and put the empty bowl in the sink, closed the microwave door, and walked away. FML.

More of this!
Police Chief Brian O’Hara has delivered a blunt message to his department: If an officer witnesses ICE agents using illegal force and fails to step in, they will be fired. 👏 👏 👏
Minneapolis police chief warns officers: Stop unlawful force by ICE or lose your job
Chief Brian O’Hara says he’ll fire city police officers if they don’t intervene when immigration agents use unlawful force.

It's the same story around the world right now. It's hard not to feel hopeless at times.
The super-rich rightwing are pouring money into Reform. Do ordinary voters really think their aim is to even out social inequality and make their lives better? Do they think they’re doing it so Farage invests in infrastructure and public services? Ffs. Democracy being beaten to death in plain sight.

Hey, #BookSky fam! I set a 2025 reading goal of 50 books. I am at 89 (!) and have six books on the go. Now I want to try for 100 by year end.

What are your faves in mystery, fantasy, or Canadian indigenous fiction or non-fiction recommendations? 500 pages or less.

Why does Canada keep inventing weird pizzas? I looked up Windsor pizza due to the post below. Judging by the wiki page pic, @photoplasia.bsky.social nailed it! One question: What is the best way to shred pepperoni?
Okay, two questions: do we have other weird pizzas?

Dammit! A seagull's noticed I've been feeding the crows. It's sat outside my window waiting for peanuts and biscuits I made for the crows. So, now, instead of a peaceful Sunday afternoon of reading, I've got to be the crazy person yelling out of the window at the seagull in my yard.

I think both.
Letting a Russian-written plan circulate as U.S. policy for three days only makes sense if the admin was either completely incompetent or quietly going along with it until the backlash hit. I think the latter.
