If I was born in another era, I’d have just been dead.
Who would I have been if I was born in another historical era? Pal go back a few generations on either side of my family and you get shit shovellers, if I had been born any time pre WWII chances are I would have been shovelling shit.

Said for a long time that much of the problem with our media is it’s focused on predicting the future rather than exploring the present.

It’s all about guessing what WILL happen, not what IS happening.
It drives me insane when you have one hour for news on a national platform and, with absolutely everything going on, you choose to take a substantial amount of time for, ‘Here’s how I think that will play out A FUCKING YEAR FROM NOW in the midterms.’ It strikes me as fundamentally unserious.

More of this. Use every one of Trump's giveaways as an excuse to hammer him about restoring ACA subsidies.
WATCH — @repstevenhorsford.bsky.social : “My amendment would redirect that $40 BILLION from Argentina to fund the ACA subsidies for two years… a far better use of taxpayer dollars.”

Why do we have money for Argentina while our own people lose their health care? How does this make us great?

I became an AI skeptic bc the only cogent use cases AI boosters gave were, "a better search engine". but regular search engines already worked fine for 99% of people. the few folks who needed something more were like, me and my colleagues, none of whom found tremendous value in AI search tools
Anthropic is aggressively hitting me with ads on instagram for Claude and it’s all people being like “I use Claude to brainstorm” or asking Claude where they can find two colors together in a city. What a pile of crap, how does anybody still believe this is the future? It’s Search 2 and it sucks

FYI part of our current problem with air traffic controllers began when Reagan fired a bunch of them en masse during a strike.

That meant a bunch of new ones were all hired at the same time, and unsurprisingly began retiring all at the same time a few years ago.
Completely normal

Read every word & share with everyone you know. This is real life here in Chicago. Americans need to know this grotesque reality & stand with us.
Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

I'm single. No kids, no claims, no pre-existing conditions. The cataclysmic leap from paying $50 a month to $1,228.28 a month is a level of devastation the depth of which I'm struggling to articulate. I wasn't going to be able to afford when I thought it was going up to $350 a month. And now...😵
I thought my new health insurance premium was going to be $350 per month until I got this letter informing me that it would be $1,228.28 PER MONTH. I CURRENTLY PAY $50. Is my math mathing? Is that.... a 2,356.42% increase?

2256.42%????

TWO THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED FIFTY SIX POINT FORTY TWO PERCENT😩

Quick note about this again; the 100 mile zone has nothing to do with Border Patrol’s ability to operate. They can operate anywhere in the country.

The 100 mile zone is ONLY about where they have heightened stop and search powers.

It’s not a jurisdictional thing.
Why is Border Patrol in Chicago? It's not inside 100 mile limit.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

Also how “great” it was to be a worker in the 60s-80s.

My mom spent most of her working life with workplace sexual harassment and abuse being not only legal but “normal.” My dad worked jobs where fistfights at work carried little penalty.

And both lived through recessions we’ve now just forgotten.
My most curmudgeonly attribute is that I get deeply annoyed by people in their 20s who think that previous generations were just handed houses and jobs and easy lives.
People wildly overestimate the economic security experienced by past generations. There's no period in American history where significant numbers of young people were just handed high paying jobs. Nostalgia for a time that never existed is a huge problem.

So I saw PREDATOR: BADLANDS and really enjoyed it!

Felt like the Alien and Predator licensed comics and novels I grew up with that used the IP and its background to tell an unusual, high-concept sci-fi story (Aliens Crime Thriller, Aliens Gothic Horror, etc.)

I like that they’re doing weird stuff.
