I've been borrowing books from Dallas Public Library for years & always just used my DL on checkout. I didn't even know they had an actual card until today.

It features Brad Oldham's iconic affable Traveling Man & Bird friend reading together. I got choked up holding it.

I💗my library.
#Booksky
A library card with an illustrated scene featuring a friendly-looking robot and a small bird reading a book together. The robot is gray with circular eyes and a gentle smile, holding an open red book. The bird is perched comfortably beside the book. The background features DALLAS iconic cityscape with various skyscrapers and a reflection in a body of water in front of them. The sky is a light blue with a few clouds. The bottom right corner of the card contains the text "dallaspubliclibrary" and a website address.

Madness. In jail, in another state, since Sunday, clarinetist Oriana Korol is a 38-year-old child and family therapist, a U.S. citizen and mom with a 3 y.o.

Sound dangerous?

The Sheriff says she is being held on suspicion of assault on a federal officer. But, not charged yet?

Habeas corpus, kids!

If you can, skip everywhere you go at the protest. Moonwalk. Silly walk. Anything but your usual gorilla-arms-swinging gait, because the surveillance tech picks people out by their gaits, now.

The point here is that they should not have any reason to believe that YOU were ever there. Just SOMEONE.

Pay cash. Put your ID and credit cards in an Altoids tin - RF blocking. Do you have to wear glasses? Stow them for the duration if possible. The clothing you wear to the protest? Don't wear it to the park or a date or to work or to play tennis.

Nobody you haven't met needs to know your face, your clothing, your scars or tattoos, when you go to protest.

Wear long pants, long sleeves, leave jewelry and anything with a wifi, cellular, or Bluetooth at home. Change your height if possible. Don't leave behind gum or anything you drink from.

Please be conscious if you protest this weekend that there are feds at the protest. They look like you and they sound like you, not like Steve Buscemi in that one clip with the skateboard. Thinking you can spot them is self delusion. Nobody you haven’t met needs to know your last name.

Gushers, the American candy brand, made a short horror film based on their old ads. Bradley Whitford really looks like Martin Scorsese in it, although I think that’s part of the gag.

The veneration of Books As Objects misses the point entirely. If you're reading a book, turn the corners down, break the spine, spill soup on it. It's your book, go nuts. A pristine, unread book is a tragedy in a way that a beloved, much-read book that looks like the dog's been at it could never be.

Every example I gave here ⬇️ & every example I missed are examples of noncooperation, noncompliance, & defiance that either took decades to in any way succeed or are still in process.

That's what this is. This is that kind of fight. It's why joy & taking breaks & coming back to it matter so much.

🧵This country has a deep history of resisting & rejecting oppression. It isn’t often taught or acknowledged.

We need to know. We need to learn from our elders, ancestors, & political forebears. Now.

A thread about that. I will inevitably miss many examples; pls reply or QT with additions.

🧵I do my noncooperation threads bc I know most of it gets lost in the news firehose. I know courage is contagious & that we have to en-courage each other.

And/but: We're at the stage of the fight where wins are small & often temporary. Each small win matters, &/but it may be like this for years.

Stories of failed arrests due to community response are inspiring. There's been great legal work to free people, too. But this stuff is mostly a brief flash of unmarked cars, and then somebody's gone. Over and over again. No matter how many people are eager to help and want better than this.

They wore costumes to perform... ON THE RADIO.

Think about that.

Also, it's amazing how many very early radio programs (see the NBC logo on the microphone? Those are carbon-suspension mics, very, very primitive) were sponsored by tire manufacturers. Goodyear, Firestone, Michelin... Radio=travel.

"On the floor of one cavern, officers discovered an ominous metal container. The object was fat, festooned with wires. The police called in the bomb squad, they evacuated the surface, they asked themselves: What have we found?

They had found a couscous maker."

What better example of how we live in multiple worlds at the same time than a bunch of people living in the french catacombs together watching movies and eating couscous
tylerhuckabee.bsky.social
In 2004, Parisian police were conducting a training exercise in the french catacombs and found, after moving past a desk and a tape playing audio of snarling dogs, a fully functional movie theater and bar. When they returned 3 days later, the equipment was gone, with a note: “Do not try to find us.”
Members of the force's sports squad, responsible
- among other tasks - for policing the 170 miles of tunnels, caves, galleries and catacombs that underlie large parts of Paris, stumbled on the complex while on a training exercise beneath the Palais de Chaillot, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower.
After entering the network through a drain next to the Trocadero, the officers came across a tarpaulin marked: Building site, No access.
Behind that, a tunnel held a desk and a closed-circuit TV camera set to automatically record images of anyone passing. The mechanism also triggered a tape of dogs barking, "clearly designed to frighten people off," the spokesman said.
Further along, the tunnel opened into a vast 400 sq metre cave some 18m underground, "like an underground amphitheatre, with terraces cut into the rock and chairs". There the police found a full-sized cinema screen, projection equipment, and tapes of a wide variety of films, including 1950s film noir classics and more recent thrillers. None of the films were banned or even offensive, the spokesman said.
A smaller cave next door had been turned into an informal restaurant and bar. "There were bottles of whisky and other spirits behind a bar, tables and chairs, a pressure-cooker for making couscous," the spokesman said.
"The whole thing ran off a professionally installed electricity system and there were at least three phone lines down there."
Three days later, when the police returned accompanied by experts from the French electricity board to see where the power was coming from, the phone and electricity lines had been cut and a note was lying in the middle of the floor: "Do not," it said, "try to find us."

The Regime's goal is to grind everyone down. Plain & simple. Our goal is to refuse this by taking turns to fight where and how we can. When one group needs to bow out, then another group needs to step in and so on. We don't all have to do everything. We can all do something though. Stay in the fight
