We have got to collectively help people understand that of course the local* cops are acting as an arm of the machine. That is their purpose.

People need to grow their minds & grieve what they've been conditioned to believe about cops being there to help/serve/protect.

(*wherever you are)

Ellen Harding Baker (1847-1886) was a US astronomer and teacher, known for her Solar System Quilt, used as a teaching aid in her lectures on astronomy.
She likely began creating the Solar System Quilt in 1876, and it apparently took her until 1883 to complete the project.

My big opinion about that movie is that if Hollywood were still functional some executive would’ve slammed a fist down on his desk & shouted, “Put that Janelle Monae in EVERYTHING!”

“Vagrancy” was a term long used in the United States to crack down on workers not doing what employers or the police wanted them to do. In this case, it meant not working for a white person.

The Black Codes thus intended to trap black labor in place. The plantation elite’s top goal immediately upon emancipation was to corral black labor, whose core goal was to avoid the plantation labor system, preferably replacing it with small farms they owned.

Dealing with my books, moving them, sorting them, cleaning them, always makes me want to throw myself in front of a bus

And then when I manage to overcome that urge, I go buy more

I need to dismantle two bookcases so the electrician can replace the outlets behind them tomorrow but when I sat down, Spica, who had to spend the entire day with Matt instead of me, ran across the room to get in my lap

So here we all sit

After one of the worst acts of racial terror in our history, *we erased it.*

We didn't teach it.

We didn't take anyone to trial.

Police records disappeared.

So did newspaper archives.

The silence continued until 2020, when people, you could say, woke up.

I sometimes wonder if Americans truly understand the global scale of political disruptions, political interference, open violence and destabilization their country has inflicted on millions--billions?--over the decades

I'd wager most don't given what I know of how US history is taught
thinking about how my parents escaped vietnam, where the CIA destabilized my family's home country by spreading misinformation, and they landed in the united states, which is now getting destabilized bc someone in vietnam is spreading misinformation
Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

Got the furnace serviced today and the guy asked about carbon monoxide detectors so it’s a good day to share my favorite reason for ensuring your CO detectors are fully functional as the winter approaches:
Carbon monoxide is never funny, but one of my best friend’s CO alarm went off at about 11pm after a particularly cold OU-Texas weekend Saturday.

They had had their roof replaced and the vent of their HVAC was not reconnected to the outside air so when the heater kicked on CO just flooded the attic
