honestly I think one of the things that makes me pessimistic about the future is that IME the normie position agrees with every pro-human objection to this shit and yet also uses ChatGPT to compose their work emails.
I indeed would have more sympathy for the AI industry writ large around public perception if there hadn’t been years now of genuinely constant attempts at the highest level to make everyone who isn’t an upper-level manager terrified that AI will destroy their livelihoods
December 10, 2025 at 8:04 PM
anyone worried that our tech overlords are particularly out of touch wrt to AI should be relieved to learn that those in China are mirroring the same dumb concepts.

it really should replace "common sense" in our collective lexicon, imo
I would like the phrase and concept of "common decency" to make a comeback

“The obstacles to achieving almost anything are enough to make any member who came to Washington with noble intentions ask: Why am I even here?,” Rep. Nancy Mace writes.
Opinion | Nancy Mace: Why The Republican House Isn’t Working
The system in the House promotes control by party leaders over accountability and achievement.

Good idea, maybe the Russian Federation should lead by example.

It is disgusting that Trump’s hateful words of calling Somali Americans “garbage” have continued to go unchecked by members of the Republican Party.

These are US citizens he is denigrating.

We have a duty as Americans to call out his hateful rhetoric.

It’s almost like it’s about a mythological identity that has no real relation to real community or experience. It only we had some kind of historical antecedent we could have looked at, maybe even a whole continent that was bathed in blood because of this sort of idiocy.
In Opinion

The Trump administration “has offered a lot of general rhetoric about the value of Christianity to American civilization,” Ross Douthat says. “But in the absence of religious-informed policymaking, this sometimes feels more like a performance of a Christian politics than a full reality.”
Opinion | The Trump Administration Needs More Christianity in Its Nationalism
Not too much religious moralism in the administration, but too little.

My god, you’re a sitting senator. You don’t have to disgrace yourself like this.
BASH: If you were to take the confirmation vote again, would you vote to make Hegseth defense sec?

CURTIS: That's a Q I can't answer without as much thoughtful research as I did the first time

B: Now you have evidence

C: But if you by what's in the paper it's impossible to know what's going on

I dunno man he doesn’t look like he feels humiliated.
It's almost impossible to make me feel sorry for Trump, but the sheer depth of his brokeness, combined with his age, the utter humiliation involved in this farce was making me legit sad.

Democrats should be loudly signaling that a vote to overturn birthright citizenship will by itself be grounds for impeachment.
I think the six should be tried for treason.
Anyway Barrett has cited this article which is worrisome

Reconstruct the Reconstruction
i don't want a unifying Dem who promises to return to good government.

i want an angel of death who promises the government the reconstruction amendments promise.

Overturning birthright citizenship would be a declaration of war against the American people.

These dorks think they’ve hacked politics.
I'm not sure it's in the self interest of America's tech bro billionaires to suggest that we bring back public executions to punish the most destructive people in our society.
A Palantir billionaire just called for public hangings.

“It's time to bring back masculine leadership to protect our most vulnerable,” writes Joe Lonsdale.

This is where Silicon Valley authoritarianism is heading:

People seem surprised by this but the hippy movement itself always had a strong reactionary strain to it--going back to the late 60s and 70s you have long haired freaks supporting all kinds of right wing bullshit. It's 'left coded' almost as a media-created cultural keystone more than anything real.
Due to my work I know some otherwise liberal (or previously liberal) anti-vax people. But this honestly is more than just merely anti-vax. They are destroying government-led and funded public health, medicine, and science.

Tom Cotton: both one of the most stupid people alive, and also dishonest.
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), to reporters, after viewing video footage of the U.S. strikes on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean on Sept. 2:

"Righteous strikes." "Entirely lawful."

Going back over the time line of how this went down in October, and I’m begging to think that if the admiral gets subpoenaed by Congress then Hegseth is going to prison.
That black man very CLEARLY saw what was happening, said "what you not about to do is" and bounced before he could be the one now getting shanked by Hesgeth on live TV

A big part of the current MAGA ascendancy on the right is that not only are many of them racist, they are also just unbelievably stupid.

Just parroting shit they've heard someone say, no idea what any of it means, or why, or even who they're talking about. It's all just syllables mashed together.
Cammack: "Look no further than Minnesota and the disaster there where the Somalian community has been really the root of all of the waste, fraud, and abuse that we've seen in the last several years."

I feel like the more I learn about LLMs the more of a stupid boondoggle the whole thing seems.

I think it's mainly LLM companies (OpenAI especially) confusing the whole ML space by getting the term 'AI' adopted to refer to the whole field, when really none of it really qualifies.
