Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Death toll in Afghanistan when NATO answered the US’s call:
- 453 Britons
- 158 Canadians
- 89 French
- 59 Germans
- 53 Italians
- 44 Danes
- 17 Spaniards
“Stayed a little back, off the front lines “!
No one in the media will call him out over this lie or any of the others he spouts.
Trump on NATO: "I've always said, will they be there if we ever needed them? That's really the ultimate test. I'm not sure of that. We've never needed them. They'll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan and this or that. And they did. They stayed a little back, off the front lines."

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, the foreign-born or immigrant population (legal and illegal) in March 2024 was 51.6 million. Thus, if the administration deported 100 million people, it would have to deport roughly 48.4 million U.S. citizens to hit that target. #holdfast #getsmart

The story was always already about an impoverished unmarried couple facing a pitiless bureaucracy, having a baby in a barn, and then having to hide from a tyrant. The baby grew up to say that the poor were blessed and the neighbor is he who shows mercy. You can’t hide from the politics of all that.

This year, statues of tall men clad in all black with masks drawn up to hide their faces are disrupting the serenity of a Charlotte church's Nativity scene.

The figures are depicted approaching the Holy Family and the Wise Men with handcuffs as if preparing to make an arrest.

Perfectly put
Just heard some vox pops from the protest (nazi rally) today. “We want our country back,” etc.

If anyone has taken it from you (and let’s be honest, they haven’t), it’s billionaires and shithouse MPs, not some mum and her kids fleeing a war.

this letter is good for so many reasons but the best one is that it highlights just how much randos who obsess over this are weird as hell (the walz thing worked for a reason...it's weird to care this much about what kids are doing when its their business!)

A reminder to reporters: Because Trump tariff numbers are made-up nonsense, using the phrase “reciprocal tariffs” is lying to your audience. The phrase itself is propaganda. They are not reciprocal.
