The agonizing long tail of disaster recovery is underexplored. I think a lot about this 2024 study finding that when a hurricane hits somewhere in the U.S., the people there are more likely to die *for the next 15 years*. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

bill kristol is scoring off of the democratic house minority leader from the left. and he's right.
I’m kind of new to the Democrats, but I thought we were FOR respecting the legal process, and also that we were AGAINST political corruption. And that it was especially important to hold to these principles at this time.

But I guess there’s some insider memo I didn’t get that would set me straight?

The reality is that Democrats simply do not have the votes in the House to successfully impeach Hegseth. As such, they need to focus on other policy priorities that they also don't have the votes to pass.
For some reason Democratic leaders seem to prefer telling voters what they won’t be able to do, rather than what they’d like to do.

If Hegseth ordered a war crime and lied about it, shouldn’t Ds try for impeachment? Put Rs on the spot. They might get a few defections.

Today is the 70th anniversary of Rosa Parks' arrest. Six myths: 1) She wasn't old or tired. 42 years old that day, she had a "life history of being rebellious" & had spent two decades helping to turn the Montgomery NAACP into a more activist branch alongside ED Nixon and Johnnie Carr.

Actual elected Republicans are abandoning Trump and treating him like a lame duck before the political media is.
When a president tries to change a democracy into an authoritarian regime, it's an inherently precarious position.

Trump has been acting as if he had consolidated a hybrid regime, but the truth of the matter is that he hasn't. Now that Republicans smell weakness, they're openly opposing him.
Rep. Mike Turner on the double strike to comply with Hegseth's orders: "If that occurred, that would be very serious and I agree that would be an illegal act…This is completely outside of anything that has been discussed with Congress and there is an ongoing investigation."
