There are two reasons Trump is starting a war with Venezuela.

1. He’s going to try and claim as many war powers as he possibly can for repression of opposition.

2. His Administration wants to create “lmao we’re killing Hispanics” entertainment content for his sociopathic fanbase on social media.
The president is about to start a war for no real reason. All of the things he has blamed on the country he’s targeting — fentanyl distribution, “emptying the asylums” and sending patients to the U.S., alignment with Tren de Aragua— are provably, obviously false.

Lots of people are going to die.

If we're not prepared to say the president is illegitimate and all his pardons are null and void then any talk of consequences for his sycophants and mass murderers is only performative

Closing the airspace over a foreign country is a de facto declaration of war but we’ve pushed so far into “let’s conspicuously underreact so everyone knows we’re savvy people not overreacting to Trump” that his de facto declaration of war is literally not even being reported on the news

this seems important to me: at least some later strikes changed away from kill-em-all as policy.
I wonder if this rescue op was a response to someone in the military refusing another “murder the survivors” order.

i think that we should charge even people who have been pardoned, because there is no conceivable way the founders intended the pardon power to permit the executive to order people to commit crimes and then pardon them for them

America has to be redeemed with blood. That is the driving force of my politics at this point. A lot of people need to be buried in shallow graves or spend the rest of their lives in prison, and a lot of people need to live the rest of their lives in penance and ostracism

Every ICE officer deserves a death sentence
Beyond depraved: "Hours after her detainment, court documents obtained by ABC News show that a federal judge ordered the government not to remove the 19-year-old from the U.S. and not to transfer her outside of Massachusetts. But Lopez Belloza was deported to Honduras the next day."

The “do you like me” interaction between the father & son in Fences is heartbreaking.

All the son wants is for his father to show some genuine affection towards him, but the father is trying to prepare his son to deal with a racist society where people won’t like him.

Beautiful piece of writing.

AMERICANS DO NOT WANT TO ETHNICALLY CLEANSE THE NONWHITE POPULATION. Only a tiny cabal of dedicated white supremacists led by Stephen Miller wants that.

But Americans are being lied to by their cowed, billionaire-controlled media about what their government wants.
America’s civic institutions have to address the full monstrosity of this. So too do democratic governments elsewhere in the world. It’s not happening. It’s being allowed to pass - so as not to rock the boat. Rock the boat, guys, rock it hard, rock it now.

Along with the obvious implications of what amounts to a “no quarter” order by Hegseth and compliance by the commanders of JSOC and SEAL Team
6, it’s important that @alexhorton.bsky.social and Ellen Nakashima have nailed down those organizations in particular as the ones leading the boat strikes.

Does make me wonder if Slotkin, Kelly, and the rest of Congress were hearing stuff prompting the video they made about not following illegal orders
Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.

It is unfathomable that the USG lawyers would sign off on a no-survivors boat strike (no get of jail free card).

There's clear precedent dating back to World War II trial of Germans for that very act, which lawyers know well.

just a reminder that the current best explanation for why this was necessarily or desirable is that the President wanted to see some video of it

Always important to bear in mind that Truth Social posts do not have the force of law and sometimes Trump just says he’s doing things and nothing actually happens.
Trump claims “any document” signed by Joe Biden is “hereby terminated.”

He calls out executive orders later but obviously “any document” would be much broader and include legislation.

(He can’t legally do that but, as always, we get to watch how far he can push this without repercussions)

Part of why this stuff keeps getting underreported is that our media class can’t get it through their thick heads that this is not a weightless debate over political ideology, but a declaration of war on over 100 million Americans, which DHS is announcing an intent to eliminate

5/ Administration explanation to Congress seems to be a bold-face falsehood: claiming double-tap strike was to clear debris, not to kill survivors.

"That explanation has prompted frustration among some members of Congress who say they believe the Pentagon was deceptive."

So I'm pretty sure a three star knows that an order to strike alleged combatants who are hors de combat is facially illegal, in case anyone's still having any hangups on whether Bradley needs to be in the dock after this

We literally executed Germans after the war for doing what Bradley and everyone else involved did, and the Germans had a better justification (u-boat plausibly being targeted based on info provided by survivors vs.......whatever the hell pete was worried about here)
Given the justification was in part because they might communicate with someone, pete could ask Heinz-Wilhelm Eck and his XO what the law of armed conflict says about that, except oops, the allies shot them dead in 1945 after a trial
WaPo with reporting that Pete gave an explicit order to JSOC during the first strike post impact to immediately follow up in order to, and I quote, "kill them all"
