Jim O’Neill is a tech investor, former CEO of the Thiel Foundation, and co-founder with Peter Thiel of the Thiel fellowship. He has no direct medical education or experience.

It’s hard to get away from the feeling that they really are trying to kill us.
Breaking news: The White House selected Jim O’Neill, a top deputy to RFK Jr., to serve as acting head of the CDC after a clash over vaccine policy ended in the departure of several agency leaders.
White House taps top RFK Jr. deputy as acting CDC director
The decision comes a day after Trump fired Susan Monarez, the Senate-confirmed CDC director, prompting a series of resignations of other top officials there.

This Thiel lieutenant / eugenics freak thinks billionaires should have their own lawless artificial island countries ("seasteading"), there should be markets for selling human organs, and the FDA should allow drugs to be sold without evidence they're effective.

Late last night I mapped crime rates for cities in OH, SC and WV to show how often they exceeded the rate in DC — where those states’ governors are sending National Guard troops to “combat crime.” www.pbump.net/o/more-peopl...
More people in Ohio need protection from violent crime than there are people in D.C.
Governors of three states — Ohio, South Carolina and West Virginia — are sending members of their state National Guards to D.C. to … well, theoretically to combat crime but, if the past week is any in...

There’s no longer any pretense this has anything to do with crime (there are cities or parts of cities in SC and Ohio that have higher crime rates than DC — send the troops there!). This is about establishing a precedent for Trump seizing control of the nation’s capital when he wants to.
WASHINGTON (AP) — South Carolina, Ohio also sending National Guard troops to DC in further escalation of federal intervention in Dem city.

Declaring a fake emergency as an excuse to deploy the military to police civilians is one of the most canonical examples of authoritarian takeovers.

Overseas, people see clearly what Trump is doing. Here in America most people — especially those with power or influence — are in denial.

If Elias keeps refusing to field an MLB team, at what point do we fans have to start boycotting games?
WHY ARE PEOPLE PAYING TO WATCH THIS?
Dylan Carlson now mired in an 0-for-35 slump after grounding out in 9th.

#Orioles non-pitchers to have hitless at-bat streaks of 35 or longer during a single season in team history (since 1954):

Gus Triandos (35 in '62)

Whether you like the deadline deals or not, Elias is getting the heat he deserves. This season is a failure. Not all of that is his fault, but there are no more excuses. They needed to have a better offseason. Now, they need an even better one. And more than that, they need stars to play like stars

The Orioles acquiring a prospect that looks like this and is named BRANDON BUTTERWORTH is the most Mike Ellias thing possible.

Much of the disillusionment so many of us Orioles fans feel at the trade deadline is rooted in the existential angst of knowing this was supposed to be our window to compete, yet here we are selling again, all while knowing our GM won’t invest in what it takes to truly compete in the future

Everything they do is adversarial to democracy and decency and is brutal on purpose, because it's not really about any actual policy. Some of them want to be able to punish people; others are more focused on controlling institutions. In each case, every action is an attempt to keep and expand power.

The absurdity of a situation in which Prof. Hirsch, a child of Holocaust survivors & a renowned scholar of trauma & memory, wonders whether she can teach Arendt's Eichmann in Jerusalem at Columbia University.
“We learn by making analogies,” [Marianne] Hirsch said. “Now the university is saying that’s off-limits. How can you have a university course where ideas are not up for discussion or interpretation?”

Hirsch, daughter of two Holocaust survivors, is now thinking of leaving the classroom altogether.
