This is an important offseason for the Orioles

An A+ offseason makes them contenders again

A C offseason tilts them towards a rebuild

Here’s a rubric for grading the upcoming Orioles offseason

Orioles Offseason Rubric
Five months from now the offseason will be over and we’ll be able to grade Mike Elias’ offseason. When I was in school I really appreciated when a professor gave you a detailed rubric that outlined…

The Orioles are making moves!

Here’s my write up on a move I think would be great if they have the courage wade out into the deep end of free agency with the big boys

Could Tatsuya Imai be “The Guy” for the Orioles
Last offseason one of the Orioles biggest signings was longtime Yomiuri Giants star Tomoyuki Sugano. Sugano’s career as an Oriole got off to a good start and honestly if you did a blame pie for the…

Helsley, lefty X and Kittredge as 7-8-9 and then you let guys like Kade Strowd, Rico Garcia and some of the prospects like Nunez or Neighbors duke it out for an opening day roster spot and see if anyone makes a leap

If there’s hiccups or injury you can add more at the deadline

One more proven left handed bullpen arm and I think the job is done there why not grab Ryan’s old teammate Jojo Romero?

Good signing! Keep going!

There's really no such thing as a "good" deal for a top free agent SP. But if you lack a top SP you can either choose to overpay for one or do what the 2025 Orioles did...
Dylan Cease sets the market early, as Jon Heyman reports it’s a 7-year, $210-million deal. It’ll be a pricey class of starting pitchers and the latter half of the contracts may not age well. But that’s the going rate

It would fit the theme of the Orioles not just missing out on really cool players but them joining divisional rivals and dunking on us 13 times a year
I can’t stop the impending feeling that Imai will be a Yankee or RedSox

2 of the best pitchers available the offseason were moved this week for prices that the Orioles could have afforded to match/beat

There better be a move coming that makes missing out on these players make sense

The Orioles could have just had Dylan Cease for the last 2.5 years if Mike Elias had done his job in 2023
November 26, 2025 at 11:56 PM
Dylan Cease upon being asked by Andy Kostka if the Orioles offered him a contract:

“Uhhh yeah they reached out pretty early on but once they didn’t want to go past 3 years that pretty much ended the conversation”
Mike Elias texting Roch Kubatko the night before the Orioles first meeting with Blue Jays as the as the team sits at 15-23: Tell them I offered Cease 2 years 140 and he just wouldn’t take it

Is THE BAT X conscious? Does Steamer love me? Would ZiPS consider me a friend? Will OOPSY invite me to its wedding?

I had an identical thought process last year but unfortunately this year I’m even more stupid than last year
Last year, as pitchers came off the board, I allowed myself to believe that it was a sign That Elias was cooking up something big. This year, I'm less stupid.

Did any of those dystopian “bet on anything sites” have odds on Chaim Bloom trading for some Sox prospects because I feel like the odds would have been -100000

Hopefully the O’s feel really good about their chances of getting someone better than Gray because he would have been a great fit and we could have beat that price

The Blue Jays made an incredible run to the World Series, and while people want it so badly to be just about contact, it really wasn't.

Which team can emulate the 2025 Jays in '26?
Baseball can be a copycat sport, and everyone seems eager to take a lesson from the stunning Toronto run to the seventh game of the World Series, which goes something like this: Make more contact and ...

This is a tough quote. To me last years first base lagjam was one of the O’s biggest blunders

If they had traded Mayo they could have gotten a pitcher to help them not suck

If they had traded Mounty we could have given Mayo 600 ABs and would know if he is good or not
Mike Elias also said he believes these logjams will "sort itself out." Noted how important depth is (as Orioles have learned) and how they didn't want to discard a good hitter (which they believe Ryan Mountcastle still can be).
