Wrote about Tyler Rogers, a free agent who isn't just a guy who throws like Marge Simpson, but just keeps on endlessly getting outs -- and in a way you might not expect

--> www.mlb.com/news/tyler-r...
He has MLB's slowest fastball. He's still a valuable free agent
When you think of the best free-agent relievers this winter, you’re going to think of the obvious fireballers who pile up saves. There are those coming off sustained success (Edwin Díaz, Robert Suarez...

I like the Helsley deal, because 2 years is nothing and he still throws 100

but

I do think too much emphasis was put on the tipping. While I don't doubt it was real, his 4sm was also getting blasted w STL, too, and he'd lost some ride from his peak

No turkey is safe today
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, facing U.S. pressure and potential military intervention, may consider Turkey as a safe haven. Turkey’s president, a close ally, could offer refuge with guarantees against extradition.
Maduro’s ties to Turkey could smooth path to possible exile
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s close relationship with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan could make Turkey a possible safe harbor if he decides to flee Caracas.

This is a good read, as everything Jay writes on the HOF is

I think we're going to end up with 3 names inducted:

- Beltran
- Jones
- Utley

which, given a relatively weak first-year group, is not a bad result.
new @fangraphs.com: When he announced his retirement, I fretted that Chase Utley wouldn't get much of a sniff from BBWAA voters due to his short career and lack of awards. As he enters his 3rd year on the ballot, he's in very good shape for eventual election.

Seat belts are now illegal, and also not smoking two packs per day is illegal too. Your monthly shipment of abestos is in the mail (payment upon delivery).
Exclusive: Republicans plan to challenge vehicle-safety mandates, such as automatic emergency braking and alarms that remind drivers a child is in the back seat.

Yankee owner Hal Steinbrenner was asked about comparing the Yankee style of play to Toronto's, and I thought his answer was really good, right on the mark.

Dan Quisenberry once had a 44-save season where he struck out 2.85/9, or 8%.

41 K in 506 batters faced.

We say "it's literally not the same game" a lot now, but, it's not.

Putting a lot of thought into the HOF ahead of my first vote, and I keep seeing: weak ballot, no one deserving, how can you vote for more than 2-3?

And .. I agree the first-year class isn't great. But depending on how you view things, there's 15-17 guys you could find a way to get there on.
