Trey Yesavage struck out 12 batters and walked none in seven innings of one-run ball in Game 5 of the freakin' World Series.

He also generated 23 whiffs tonight, the most by any pitcher in the World Series in the pitch-tracking era (since 2008).

Here are his dozen strikeouts against the Dodgers.

In my latest for mlb dot com, I wrote about Ranger Suárez’s unique path to success in today’s pitching environment and examined his free-agent case.

The free-agent starter with a unique path to success
On a Phillies staff that featured the likes of Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola and Cristopher Sánchez, it might’ve been easy for Ranger Suárez to fly under the radar in Philadelphia. But make no mistake abou...

From Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon at The Athletic:

“The Washington Nationals aren’t simply drawing heavy interest in left-hander MacKenzie Gore. They also are getting pushed aggressively on shortstop CJ Abrams, according to people familiar with their discussions.”

The Blue Jays already signed Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce and are reportedly interested in/linked to Kyle Tucker, Bo Bichette, Ketel Marte and Edwin Díaz.

I love that Toronto is hellbent on returning to the World Series after its success this past season.
Blue Jays among teams, along with Red Sox and others, interested in D-Backs superstar Ketel Marte. Talks happening but nothing hot yet.

Jon Morosi reported that the Giants met with Framber Valdez at last month's GM meetings.

In previous days, we had reporting from Buster Olney and Andrew Baggarly saying that the Giants aren't inclined to target the more expensive starters.

I really don't know what to expect from SF this offseason.

The Angels are, in fact, reportedly not done adding to their rotation, according to The Athletic.

And they're still obviously looking to address the bullpen, center field and third base.

The Ducks are up 3-0 and outshooting Chicago 34-to-8.

A thoroughly dominating performance so far (let's hope it's not a repeat of their last matchup).

Per Ken Rosenthal at The Athletic:

"The Pittsburgh Pirates have made free-agent designated hitter Kyle Schwarber a four-year offer, according to people briefed on their discussions. The offer almost certainly is for more than $100 million."

Ketel Marte would be such a perfect addition for the Pirates and Pittsburgh has the necessary pitching that Arizona needs.

If the Pirates are serious about making a big move, this would be a fun route.

This was long overdue but I finally got around to reading David Halberstam's "Summer of '49" and am now reading "October 1964" and my goodness, these are incredible stories of baseball.

Halberstram was a damn good storyteller.

Woah.

Ferrer was good in 2025 despite the 4.48 ERA (3.61 xERA and 3.03 FIP), is only 25 and under club control through 2029. The stuff and command is quite good, too.

But getting Ford is a heck of a return for the Nats. He's MLB Pipeline's No. 42 prospect.

Based on this report from Buster Olney and The Athletic reporting that more than half of the league has checked in on MacKenzie Gore, it’s increasingly likely that the Nats will move the talented left-hander this offseason.
