Would be a very fun landing spot for him

There's been enough buzz around the Marlins being active this offseason that I think it's feasible to expect them to make those kind of short-term commitments.

I know we've been burned by Miami in the past, but things are looking fairly optimistic in the next few years.

Freddy Peralta ending up as a 2026 Rockie would be a hilarious outcome

Peralta’s only under contract through next season but at a projected $8 million in his final year of arbitration, more than half of the league should be trying to trade for him.

Getting a borderline ace/strong No. 2 starter at that price tag for a year is really appealing.

Prob makes sense to not count on both Rodriguez/Manoah too. You can always shift Manoah to the bullpen if both guys are healthy + effective.

That’s where I’m at now after letting this sink in a bit. I don’t know how you could claim you’re fielding a competitive rotation with this current group.

I’ve sorta shifted my initial thoughts on that too. It’d be foolish to put that much confidence in the two starters they’ve added.

The 110+ innings in consecutive seasons aren’t *that* far back but yeah, he’s definitely going to have to prove he’s healthy to be a starter they rely on.

Ponce is one of my favorite free agents this offseason. It sure seems like he’s unlocked something that could make him a viable mid-rotation starter.

This also opens up a potential Berríos trade for Toronto, considering they still have Lauer/Francis as depth options.

He’s scheduled to begin BP sessions in January and all parties are saying he’s supposed to be ready at Spring Training but yeah, I’m not convinced things will be that smooth.

Hope I’m wrong!

If these are the only rotation additions, it's quite funny that the Angels added a pair of SP that haven't thrown a single MLB pitch dating back to Aug. 2024.

In a market filled with quality veterans that can eat innings (Kelly, Bassitt, Littell), it'd be shocking to not add more certainty.

Well, this is the Angels after all. I'm sure they'll spin it as a positive but only adding Rodriguez/Manoah to the rotation is incredibly risky.
December 2, 2025 at 11:12 PM
Yeah, I just don’t have any realistic expectation of how he might perform. His case is very unusual for someone who is still pretty young.

Alek Manoah has fallen off considerably since finishing third in AL Cy Young Award voting in 2022 (2.24 ERA in 31 starts).

He was bad in ‘23, had UCL surgery in the middle of ‘24 and didn’t throw a MLB pitch in ‘25.

Suffice to say that Manoah, who turns 28 in January, is a big reclamation project.
