Mike, blink twice if ownership is forcing you to spend money
What's most likely?

- Elias wanted to continue his strategy of efficiency/sustainability but is being forced by ownership to spend
- He's willingly pivoting because what he was doing before isn't working anymore
- He only operated that way in the first place because of past ownership constraints

the Orioles lineup, when healthy, always LOOKS great. we'll see if a handful of players actually step up. there's the potential for a lot of fun and a lot of dingers

Orioles' first basemen hit the fewest home runs (14) of any team last season and boasted the seventh-worst OPS (.679).

Pete Alonso has bopped at least 34 home runs in every full MLB season and owns a career .857 OPS.

That is a huge addition at a position of need for the Orioles.

This article confirms that it was the Phillies who matched the Orioles' offer, not the other way around. There has been some confusing wording about the O's matching the offer. Either way, the O's appear serious about making a splash or two. Finally

A few more 1B/DH types and this roster is READY
Mike Elias said the Orioles are viewing the hitting market through this lens: "Do they improve the team?"

"If the player is good enough, we can figure out ways to accommodate them, so we have a lot of conversations going on, mostly in free agency, but also some in trades."

Dylan Cease? Yeah, cool. Anyway, back to the mid-off between Ryan Mountcastle and Coby Mayo

Don't worry. I'm sure the Orioles "had interest" and were "close" to signing Cease

I still wonder what the O's could've brought in for Mayo/others during the 2024 trade deadline. You can't (shouldn't) go into next season with Mayo and Mountcastle on the roster again. Mountcastle just isn't that good and that isn't anything new
