There has been no draw down today. ICE snatched someone off Central Ave out of his car because he looked Latino before then letting him go a couple hours later. They were stopping people in Blaine on highway 65, they were all around Fridley, and were in the parking lot of the St Anthony liquor store

Can’t stop thinking about the gargantuan gulf between the kid glove, caveat-laden, “having your name all over the Epstein files doesn’t mean you did anything wrong”-treatment of the men in Epstein’s inbox… and the brutalize first, ask questions later policing in Minneapolis.

The Mexican grocery store in my neighborhood keeps their doors locked. You have to ring the doorbell to be let in.

They do this so their employees & customers don't get kidnapped by ICE. People were already abducted from their parking lot just trying to feed their families. Abhorrent.
Friends from Minneapolis reporting to me that things are at the point where folks are being hidden in other people's houses and we are in the "again" part of "never again" which the "never" was supposed to preclude

It sends a message that “people impacted by racial discrimination ... don’t matter,” one attorney said.

You cannot do "commonsense reform" for a secret police force that's declared itself exempt from constitutional requirements. You cannot reform ultraviolent agencies that have been corrupt for decades and now have accountability only to the president's goons and lackeys.
Democrats want commonsense reform for ICE:

End the roving patrols and racial profiling.

Take accountability and abide by the same rules as local police.

Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.

Can comfirm from MN, as can anyone who lives here, that not a THING has changed except little Bovino isnt peacocking around the streets anymore. And there hasn’t been a third high-profile murder of a white person yet.

But the gestapo attacks haven’t stopped. At all! bsky.app/profile/jyse...
ICE hasn't stopped brutalizing people or shredding the Constitution, it's just that corporate media turned the camera as the call for action got too loud and the Democrats stepped in and made sure the issue got changed.

If you sit for a second, you'll recognize that's what happened with BLM, too.

People with disabilities are funneled into the system starting at a young age:

➡️ As children, they face some of the highest rates of arrest & confinement.

➡️ And as adults, almost half a million people with disabilities are locked up in state prisons on a given day.

It be people who have never applied for a single government service bemoaning the idea of people "who don't need it," getting access to it. And like, that is not a problem we have. Our problem is that these systems are so Byzantine that many people who need them cannot access them.
I’m trying very hard to be measured about this conversation but I am so, so frustrated with the idea that accommodations are easy to get and enforce. They are not, and every parent of a disabled child spends an extremely considerable amount of time getting them and then making sure they’re enforced

I'm seeing people wonder why ICE is going after Charlotte.

ICE has been at war with Charlotte's sheriff ever since he won in 2018.

We'd covered this at Bolts back in the day; this quote is from that sheriff:
“When the 8 African American sheriffs took over the largest counties in North Carolina, it became a threat to the good ol’ boy system,” says the sheriff of Charlotte. These new sheriffs broke ties with ICE.

But GOP lawmakers cracked down this week, overbidding the governor’s veto to adopt this law:
North Carolina GOP Is Cracking Down on the Black Sheriffs Who Stood Up to ICE
Boosted by new supermajorities, Republicans are closing in on legislation to mandate more collaboration with ICE and preempt local policies hard-won by immigrants’ rights advocates.

Our beloved Alice Wong has joined the ancestors. It was one of the great honors of my life to call Alice my friend, co-author & co-conspirator. She was a true genius, a force of nature the likes of which the world has never seen before. I love you, Alice, and am equal parts grateful and devastated
