This is how I remember post-9/11 as well. Things were scary and stupid (but not as stupid as things are now). I was so glad when we grew out of it.
What universe was this man living in? I remember that year. It was terrorist everything. "Keep shopping/going to school/buying stocks or the terrorists win." You know what we couldn't say? French fries. (Freedom fries.) Conservative pressure groups tried to get The Two Towers film renamed.

A lot of creators essentially saying "My work might contain nudity and sexual situations, but it's NOT porn. My work is important and artistic, while their work is dirty, which is still okay to hate and censor." But guess what! The purity squad makes no such distinction.

This has just made me realize that a good Silent Hill isn't a horror game. It's an ANXIETY game.
It's not about scaring you directly, at least not often. It's about giving you just enough to worry about that you fill the silence and emptiness with the horrors yourself.

"Silent Hill is terrifying" Silent Hill is only scary if you haven't done the inner work allowing yourself to sit comfortably with silence or if you are somehow afraid of being hunted by a man with a giant sword who also happens to have a pyramid for a head. Otherwise, it's not scary. It's regular.
