This is the vital part to all of it, if your entire political identity is bound up in defending a state which does not afford approximately 50% of the population it controls equal rights or even any rights, then you will inevitably feel compelled to import that model to your own country.
It's not very nice to say but pro Israel groups have wedded themselves to the causes of doing away with free speech and freedom of movement (logical conclusion of their underlying defense of a state which has neither) and liberals aren't obliged to pretend that this isn't the case.
