It’s Black History Month, and we will be continuing to share posts and stories about the enormous and often unsung accomplishments of Black heroes in public health.

The Freedom House Ambulance Service was one such group of heroes.
Freedom House Ambulance Service was the first community-based Emergency Medical Service in the US.

It was started by Black men in the Hill District of Pittsburgh (Hill Street Blues was based in part on the Hill District). At the time, EMS was a dash to the hospital in the back of a paddy wagon.

To those saying it was irresponsible of Lindsey Vonn to race with a torn ACL, note that the knee didn't give out on her; she snagged her pole on a gate. To the "she took someone else's spot" argument, she is No. 1 in the world in downhill; that spot was always her spot.

This is one of the only pieces I've seen that actually wrestles with the long-term affects of what has happened to the Civil Service. It isn't as easy as just (re)hiring people. They broke the entire system that attracted good people in the first place. www.ettingermentum.news/p/regime-cha...

Because I'm talking about measles. It is also A VERY VERY VERY CONTAGIOUS VIRUS. If someone is in a room and has measles and then leaves that room and you enter that room within TWO HOURS (depending on humidity) you can get measles.

And people are contagious for four days before the rash appears.
::taps mic::

beyond being an absolutely miserable illness, measles can cause immune amnesia. It wipes out your immune systems memory of how to fight every infection, every vaccine you've ever had.

A measles outbreak is growing in a rural area of West Texas where vaccination rates are well below the recommended level.

This is terrible news. Black women have long been a backbone of the federal workforce and so much of their pain stems for the damage done to all of us - smart and talented people no longer working for America.
"Black women started 2025 with an unemployment rate of 5.4 percent."

"They ended it at 7.3 percent — the highest rate in four years."

"Black women's unemployment is now equivalent to White women's rate during the bleakest moments of the Great Recession."

Beyond helping establish DHS itself in 2003, Mr. Mitnick was a senate-confirmed Trump choice for General Counsel for DHS in his first term. I've talked with him a few times, and he's not a man for hyperbole. So bear that in mind when you see him calling out DHS's "lawlessness, fascism, and cruelty."

You could do a lot without any legal change. I oversaw civil forfeiture for DOJ Criminal Division, which did huge cases including against banks. Spent most of my career trying to get people to go after bigger targets.
