I don't often call for resignations. But Sir Robbie Gibb's role in the BBC boardroom coup makes his continued role there untenable. He must resign or be removed
‘Gibb’s supporters say he is trying to save the BBC from itself; he was also heard last year to say that if he didn’t get his way, he would “blow the place up”.’
“a group of politically-appointed directors has forced the hand of Samir Shah, the chair, and the departure of the two most senior people in the organisation. Their resignations should be called out for what they are: political interference..”1/

This is true, obviously, but the trauma of 1992 still haunts Labour like a curse, we simply can't get beyond it, so therefore we behave like this. We don't want to, but we can't help ourselves. To misquote Jack Nicholson, the public can't face the truth, they want unicorns forever.
While going through the proofs for "The British General Election of 2024" (out very soon!) I came across this - Paul Johnson of the IFS's verdict on Labour's manifesto last year. Labour's current attempts to claim the need to break their tax pledges was impossible to forsee don't stack up

Just absolutely classic BBC. You've just broadcast the most successful programme of the year, uniting Gen Z kids online and Boomers on broadcast in a return to appointment television. And instead of celebrating, your DG reigns due to a made-up right-wing scandal.

I simply do not believe they would have resigned if it was a misleading claim about someone on the left.
How is this different to the HIGNFY claims about digital ID a few weeks ago? The BBC literally laughed it off.

It’s ironic but predictable that the BBC duo -who tried so hard to please the right wing papers-are removed by the right wing papers.

Another very pertinent fact that I have not seen mentioned ANYWHERE: In 14 years of Tory rule we had 14 Prisons Ministers - six in a single year, at one point - and a total of 11 Justice Secretaries, including Grayling, Raab, and Truss. In 13 years of Labour it was three: Irvine, Falconer, Straw. 🤔

Just back from seeing 'Deliver me from nowhere',I enjoyed it and it must be so difficult for people to work with Stephen Graham, he's like a magnet, steals every scene he's in. I wasn't a Springsteen fan and bought Nebraska for a girl who was, she hated it, but I was smitten (with him) Sorry Joanna.

My Dad had to give up his job as a fireman (which he loved) to work shifts in a factory because his wages were rubbish Our house had an outside toilet, 1 coal fire and damp everywhere (look up silver fish). Our first holiday was when I was 10 at a friend's caravan in a field in Wales. 1960s.
Awful lot of people seem to think houses used to fall off trees, jobs were well paid and lovely, people were lovely to each other, and everyone could afford holidays every day.
Of course life isn't perfect now. But it never was. And in many ways it is much better.
