I’ve just learned that Leslie Fish died at the end of November. I wish I could be more sad about that, she was someone I knew and greatly admired when I was young, but she had become a truly dreadful person in recent years, and was certainly very divisive and obnoxious long before that.

I have never used a modern dating app and whenever anyone uses ”swiping left” or “swiping right” as an analogy I have to wait for context before I understand whether they are in favor of the thing or against it

If the MTA Transit Store doesn’t start selling stickers that make your Omni look like a Metrocard the are throwing money away
the amount of sad you should feel about the retirement of the NYC Metrocard should be like “mildly wistful pre-nostalgia” — more than that, IMO, is kinda silly

I would like to live in perpetual midwinter gloom and NYC summers almost kill me every year, which is why I absolutely believe that the opposite sort of person exists and I will not condescend to them
like folks I would LIKE to be able to take advantage of a number of attractive far-north places except for the minor detail of “my brain initiates a genuine and totally implacable self-destruct switch sometime around mid-December” in dark cold climates
