My local dive shop went out of business this week. I've met many great people through the shop. It was there I met the person who introduced me to the dive volunteer program at the @aquariumofthebay.bsky.social Really bittersweet to visit one last time.

My lino block print of a charming Grimpoteuthis octopus, one of a genus of pelagic cirrate (finned) octopods known as the dumbo octopuses. The fins reminded scientists of ears on the elephant in Disney’s 1941 film Dumbo. Hence their common name dumbo octopuses. The print is 9.25” by 12.5” on delicate ivory Japanese washi paper with visible margin, number, title and signature. The background is black. The octopus is reddish on top, then dark blue, with brown legs are spiralled up and drawn in close to its body.

I ran out of sticker space on my laptop and water bottle, but needed to display this incredible art from @invertebabe.bsky.social (nautilus, squid) and @octopolis.bsky.social (moray, cuttle, monsters). What a delight to realize the flatbed scanner on my desk offers extensive sticker real estate!

My friend said he wanted to make comics but he's bad at drawing so with these crude little examples I tried to explain that you don't need to be a good artist to make good art. Lighting and composition are cheat codes. People don't care about skill, they care about emotion
