Imma study more Sierra games more closely with how they work. It’s the amount of agency the player has that really impresses me, especially bc these are super old games.

I’d like to be able to program stuff like that in my game too so that’s there’s more to do than just main objectives!

Honestly I like games with sneaky missable stuff that you need to go out of your way to find but it’s the locking you out of any ending that’s the cruel part. Games that are like “The end! Btw you could’ve gotten a better ending if you-“ are more likely to get me to replay.

I know Sierra games is infamous for the “you missed a crucial item hours ago and can’t finish the game” dead ends but Laura Bow 2 is BRUTAL. It has so many items that are easily missable almost by default, I’ve never seen another Sierra game that cruel.

Maybe that’s why the game is obscure…

Yea that’s exactly the case here! It’s pretty cool how those old publications had a variety of interviews and short stories in them and some got really experimental, not what you’d expect from a soft core magazine nowadays

I remember it having a women’s nudist colony a guy stumbles upon?? But somehow it’s like a cult that worships some kind of eldritch dick or something????? The only 18+ thing I can remember about it was the naked women. The art was pretty traditional paints tho.

On the last day for my comic writing class, my prof had an AMA with us and one of my classmates asked if he’s ever done any kind of 18+ work. My prof said he wrote a short comic for playboy and later I actually found it and lemme tell ya’

It was surreal and as sexy as Stephen King’s writing…
