Australia recorded ZERO cases of cervical cancer in women under 25 for the first time since they started tracking the cancer in the 80s.

This is the power of vaccines.

The HPV vaccine is extremely effective at preventing cancer.

Viruses can be oncogenic. Get your vaccines and protect yourself!
newsGP - Australia set for world-first cervical cancer elimination
Vaccination programs have played a key role, and GPs remain ‘instrumental’ in boosting screening rates to reach the 2035 target.

Dear foreign nationals in war-torn countries, terrorism hot-spots, and amidst our enemies:

If you help the United States, we’ll fuck you over and abandon you. Not the individual servicepeople or intelligence officers — they’ll fight for you. I mean the depraved, soulless leadership of the nation.
So now they’re going to be doing individualized re-review of tens of thousands of Afghan evacuees’ cases on TOP of the re-review of 200,000+ refugees who entered under Biden?

this led quite directly to Brexit, both in Johnson's career path and because his specialty when in Brussels was making up lies about 'crazy EU' regulations that didn't exist.

a side note: you can learn *a lot* about British journalism when you realize that Boris Johnson was fired from his first job in it for serial dishonesty, and then promptly hired into a new job, where he continued to make up lies.
Not to pat my profession on the back, for all of our problems, but I do think it's to the law's credit that every US bar association that reviewed Glass' application for a license went "fuuuuuuuuuuuck no."

I wish Andrew Vachss were still alive and he was writing about the Epstein story.

Vachss told some stories that were a fraction as lurid as Epstein's island, but those stories made me think he was running off into fantasy.

People are frequently shocked by the things that liars lie about. "I can understand someone lying about *this*, but no one would be so depraved as to lie about *that*."

the invasion of Afghanistan is among the most horrific recent chapters of the long history of elite impunity in the US. this coda is grim but fitting - the govt practically explicitly affirming that it should only be Afghans who live with the consequences amid fading public memory of the atrocity
It didn’t even take 6 hours.

Something I needed reminding of after listening to this episode of #withpod (@chrislhayes.bsky.social) is that the "subsidies" much argued about are roughly equivalent to the MASSIVE tax benefit employers get for paying for part of health insurance costs.

Just making a modern bronze age collapse, no big deal.
You know what’s going to be incredibly hard for future researchers? The largely missing private & semi-private documents from 2000 onwards, as more & more & more of our written exchanges never get printed on paper & saved, on purpose or otherwise.
You know what we won't need once handwriting recognition software has done its thing? Archivists, curators, conservators, catalogers, codicologists, or paleographers. We won't need archives either. We won't need diplomatics, editorial theory, book or media history, or material culture studies 🗃️🧵

Sojourner Truth died in Battle Creek, Michigan, on this day in 1883, and is buried near cereal royalty — the Kelloggs and the Posts. She arrived in Battle Creek to go to the famed Kellogg Sanitorium.
Truth kept up her activism in Battle Creek, and kept Kellogg as her personal physician. (After Truth’s death, Kellogg became a raving eugenicist.) She is buried in Battle Creek’s Oak Hill Cemetery, along with a few of her kids and grandkids, and Post, and many Kelloggs 6/end

A simple question for the people pushing stuff called AI in education and other fields, and especially for the people spending large amounts of money: Where's your data? What evidence do you have that this stuff is worth the cost (or even the below-cost price this stuff is being sold at)?
