Al Jazeera is doing videos of the Palestinian releases and they're heart wrenching. One man was detained for over a year and was released to find out that Israel had killed his two kids. The youngest was three. Her birthday would've been on Saturday. He'd made a small bracelet for her in prison.

Hydroelectric dams are Complicated, but I still think they are cool AF especially the ones built in the 1930s as part of recovering from the Great Depression. Anyway we went to the Bonneville lock & dam yesterday – visitor center was open! I was so excited I think I embarrassed the tween.

The convenience of being able to put holds on books and having them at my local branch – or really just checkout in ebook format which is easier for me to read – means I don't go there near enough. I need to go to the book spiral soon!

Sometimes I remember there are folks who don't like Seattle's central library. It is a little hard for me to wrap my head around.

Yeah. But the general problem of property taxes being confusing and our governments so dependent on them means it's always easy to oppose things because of taxes. :/

I have literally had to explain this absurdity at 37th district dems meetings when some members were arguing against endorsing a levy renewal because it's a "tax hike" since the total amount goes up but it's almost always less than inflation ...

Important @attackerman.bsky.social piece for @foreverwars.bsky.social.

And remember:

“even should Trump's 20-point plan take hold, another October 7 will happen. It is foretold by the conditions of Palestinian oppression that the plan leaves intact.

Downtown could have "like, a 10-foot wall" where people could talk to AI versions of historical figures. "How cool would this be if we had like, a 10 foot wall. It's interactive and it's historical. And you could talk to Martin Luther King."...
r343l.bsky.social
I can't help that folks like the idea of AI historical people because either they are incapable of engaging with the messy complexity of historical interpretation – or don't want others to learn how to do that. Easier to tell one neat packaged narrative.

Anyway no AI propaganda video walls FFS.

Can I also say I am so angry today. It's the lives lost, the cities wiped out, the time taken from us. We have been consumed with this level of unspeakable violence for 2 years. To think of all the potential futures taken away... it's unfathomable

This was twenty-three months ago. Israeli forces have killed more than 16,365 kids since.

November 7, 2023 — Kids in Gaza host a press conference, in English, to beg the world for life.

“We come now to shout and invite you to protect us; we want to live, we want peace…we want to live as the other children live.”

At the time, Israel forces had killed over 4,200 kids like these.

Apropos of this utter absurdity (I HATE elevators for stations and only Tokyo's system justifies this level of complexity), Claudia Balducci had a great article in @publicola.bsky.social about trying to make Sound Transit build out better. publicola.com/2025/10/08/t...

I just can't get over the differences in scale between Ballard Link's Westlake Station as proposed and the original Westlake Station, off to the left.
Ballard Link's Westlake has two separate entrances underneath separate buildings, with one showing a long tunnel to get to the train guideway. They are at least five stories deeper than the original Westlake, which is tiny and only around 10-15% of the size

This drives me so nuts. The way you make surface disruption be less of an issue is doing the job fast. Shallow cut and cover and deliver teh work as fast as possible. In other parts of the world that means many shifts and overtime but that's a better deal for everyone.

Today over 100 students walked out of class to march though Seattle to end to the Palestinian Genocide

It was organized, peaceful, and had zero conflict with the police, so you probobly won’t see anything about it on the news

But remember that people are resisting, even if you don’t see it
