I think this is part of my generation's confusion about AI.

We were raised on a culture that warned about these dangers repeatedly -- from WarGames to the Terminator films to the Matrix, and countless other dystopian futures in between -- and now those cautionary tales are being celebrated.
Imagine when The Terminator came out if you told someone that in 40 years the world’s richest weirdo would fill the sky with a communications net, embrace AI, and now promise to build an army of robots, and nobody seems inclined to stop him.

Why would we want Britishness? It is a flimsy construct of the English ruling class to control the Celtic Fringe and always has been. The Scots are Scottish for a good reason, our own culture, education system and Law among several. We don't need Britishness or the English, just mutual respect.

How did Starmer go from landslide to endgame in under two years? Also this week: the most murderous mammal on earth; and every thought I have about an insane train plan.

Remember the Soviet joke about a man who always goes to look at the papers but never buys one. The news agent asks him what he's looking for and he says, "An obituary" and the news agent points out that they're always in the back section. "This one won't be".

Sums it up.

Europeans, Canadians and Mexicans can't trust America again until America visibly changes in strategic approach and cultural outlook towards the world. Americans can't afford their hubris anymore.

People living in UK - especially GB - should not be thinking 'at least we're not as bad as America,' when Northern Ireland exists and civilians were being shot by state forces there for decades, and recent governments have given those forces amnesty. @grantsana.bsky.social leading bsky voice here.

Spray paint a plane and they'll detain you without trial and call you a terrorist.

Kidnap a foreign head of state - and Keir Starmer will make it clear we've played no part in it but will wait for the scheduled press conference in a few hours before potentially condemning it

Jones is making the mistake of thinking isolated authoritarian leaders don’t miscalculate.

Putin’s Russia has a history of miscalculated and sadistic aggression.

We owe it to our allies in Eastern Europe to help deter its repetition.

And we would be less safe were Putin to involve them in war.
What are you even talking about! I am saying it is a delusional fantasy to suggest Russia is going to invade European countries like Poland, Germany or indeed the UK, which is the insane drivel currently being promoted in support of a disastrous arms race.

On a smaller point: do these people ever actually read Tolkien?

The whole point of the LoTR is that power corrupts; that no one can be trusted with the ring except the little people who want to destroy it; & that it's "the pity of Bilbo", not "the hard men of Gondor", that saves Middle Earth.

Starmer surrendered when he turned his back on disabled people that rely on the government for support.

He surrended when he cut aid for the disabled.

He surrendered the moment he called us an island of strangers.

The prime minister said the flag represents "our diverse country" and he will not allow people to feel intimidated.

We have struggled to explain the Starmer government. But I think the explanation comes down to two simple forces:
1. A visceral, obsessive hatred of the Labour left. Any progressive policy, however necessary and popular, looks to the inner circle like a dangerous concession to the left.

Harmeet Dhillon at NatCon: "When the next group of elites comes to demand we stop protecting fairness in hiring, confidence in our elections, safety in girls sports, we're going to answer them the same way that Leonidas answered on the eve of the Battle of Thermopylae: Molon Labe.
