My mentor who taught me shooting would tell me that if I arm myself, it is my duty to society to do everything I possibly can to never ever ever draw my weapon because it’s too easy to feel powerful with a gun and escalate a situation without thinking that I would have de escalated were I not armed
Think about how although Pretti was a gunowner, when he saw someone being attacked his first response wasn't to use the gun but to help them up and ask them if they're ok.
It wasn't even on his mind that a gun would be useful.
