Classic authoritarian logic: corrupt people by giving them an incentive to do the wrong thing. In 1933 and 1938, years of major assaults on targeted groups, the Nazis forgave the debt of other Germans to bind them to the regime.

Maher Tarabishi has been in ICE detention since October. He was not allowed to attend the funeral of his 30-year-old son Wael Tarabishi, who had been battling health complications from a serious and rare inherited disorder. CNN has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for comment.

I get tired of saying it, but I’ll say it again: the nature of oppression in America is that they workshop it first on Black, Latino, Asian & Native people.

But it is always, in the end, coming for everyone.
The arrests of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort are a test for every MSM member with a platform. If you are not voicing your outrage at this blatant violation of the First Amendment, you are utterly discredited as a journalist.

Pam Bondi just sent a letter to Minnesota officials saying ICE will leave if the state turns over its voter database to Trump.

Guess what? This has never been about safety or immigration. It’s a pretext for Trump to take over elections in swing states.

It just get worse. Instead of administering CPR to a man who might still be alive, DHS officers were leering over the body, counting the bullet holes.

This is a white supremacist paramilitary operation. Their goal—their stated goal!—is to force America to submit to the President's racist domineering vision for the country.

The sooner everybody starts confronting it on the terms that they themselves have stated, the better.

From @lizdye.bsky.social, a look at the many ways DHS/ICE are routinely violating the Constitution.
New in PN: Kristi Noem's assault on the Fourth Amendment

"The Department of Homeland Security deliberately confuses reasonable suspicion and probable cause in hopes that no one will notice that ICE and CBP are making illegal arrests as standard operating procedure."

ICE has shrouded entire neighborhoods in Minneapolis in a toxic cloud of chemicals.

Last year, I commissioned this story on @thexylom.com on the aftermath of Nepal's Gen-Z protests, where something similar happened.

There are likely long term public health impacts in both cities for years to come:

I spent October traveling to schools throughout the South talking to students about American history. What I found were young people who understand we can tell a story that includes both the positive and the negative. As one 8th grader in Memphis said, “Doesn’t seem that hard, just say both things.”
Tell Students the Truth About American History
We owe it to Americans of all ages to be honest about the country’s past, including its contradictions.

We found that a company with deep ties to Kristi Noem secretly got money from DHS contracts.

“It’s corrupt, is the word,” a contract law expert said. “Hiding your friends as subcontractors is like playing hide the salami with the taxpayer.”

The company is run by the husband of Noem’s chief DHS spokesperson and has personal and business ties to Noem and her aides. DHS invoked the “emergency” at the border to skirt competitive bidding rule...

At the same time the NY Times was hyping Hillary Clinton's emails, it had a reporter with emails from Jeffrey Epstein that were highly damaging to Trump.

The more NYT apologists try to minimize this the clearer it becomes that they don't understand why much of the public doesn't trust legacy media.

There are so many poor people sitting in prisons who are innocent or who were convicted on flimsy or manipulated evidence who deserve clemency.

But be a corrupt, rich asshole and you'll get a pardon from Trump.

There is so much to say about the vileness of Ken Starr, who died in 2022 not nearly as disgraced as he should have been. bsky.app/profile/asha...
Also Starr is offering to help out an “unhappy friend” of Epstein’s who apparently has been accused of some kind of sexual misconduct, perhaps at university. Remember Starr helped cover up sexual misconduct on football team when he was president of Pepperdine
