This hand-drawn map is his own sketch, later redrafted by Pauline Baynes for Prince Caspian.

Have discovered that the little clip-on reading light works better not when it is clipped to the book (pretty annoying and the glare hurts the eyes) but when clipped on to a pillow I prop up against the headboard.

Least favourite film tropes.

2ndary character: I shall stay and hold them off so you can escape.

Hero: thanks. I shall stay and breathlessly watch your heroic demise so your sacrifice can buy me as little time as possible.

Okay, submitted the Body Horror article. Now to worry about another article but probably on Monday. I need to rest my brain properly tomorrow and format the poetry collection for publication.

I've sold 470 copies of COME TOMORROW and 137 of SHELTER FROM THE STORM.
These are not bad numbers for self-published short story collections. And COME TOMORROW, as the older book, has a big headstart.
In addition a lot more authors need to talk about how small their sales are. Many independent press authors in Canada sell fewer than 500 copies of their books.

“Long COVID has shattered every aspect of my life,” says Ella, who contracted COVID in 2021 at 19 and had to move home. Once active and social, she now spends days in a dark room with “debilitating fatigue,” exercise intolerance, brain fog, nerve pain, breathlessness and many other symptoms.

Still working on the feminist body horror article. From the amount of work I do on it, you'd think I was the sole author. 😏

But I'm always conscious my name will be on these things and quality matters.

I've done another huge load of laundry and have cleared like 80% of the laundry backlog that happened during the weeks when I was too worried to do too much laundry because of the (now fixed) leaking/flooding situation in the yard kitchen (where the washing machine is situated). 🎉

I don't think any major cooking is going to be happening today; I'm still finishing up stuff I cooked last weekend and during the workweek. Also, managed to spill hot coffee on myself earlier. Did quick first aid but unsure there won't be a beaut of a scald tomorrow. Hope not, coffee wasn't boiling.

Noticed on my rewatch of Witcher season 3, the invocation of (Antonin) Artaud in the Conclave episode. Nicely done.

Just a reminder that I wrote a book and you absolutely should not read it if you hate chonky first books of multi-volume fantasy series with ornate and byzantine world-building with mostly Asian/Global-South coded characters.

“A Divine Image“ — William Blake

Cruelty has a Human Heart
And Jealousy a Human Face
Terror the Human Form Divine
And Secrecy, the Human Dress

The Human Dress, is forged Iron
The Human Form, a fiery Forge.
The Human Face, a Furnace seal'd
The Human Heart, its hungry Gorge.

What The Woods Mean -- the collection I plan on publishing next week has poems written between 1996-2006 (mostly). Some have been published, some have been on my websites, and a couple of others I've performed at readings. The original Cupid/Psyche poem that led to Watermyth is contained.
