I have played Atari today.
Been playing Tears of the Kingdom alongside Age of Imprisonment and, given recent Discourse over modern games not trusting players to retain information, I feel the organically occurring adventures of BotW and TotK are evidence that a hands-off approach *can* work. moegamer.net/2025/11/15/z...
Zelda's organic adventures - MoeGamer
Zelda has always been about non-linear exploration, but its most recent installments expand this into organically occurring adventures.

welp. glad I picked up the Japanese physical (which has English text)

Can't believe we're still doing this "platform standards and guidelines" nonsense. Treat adults like adults!
XSEED Games announced that Corpse Party Tetralogy Pack west physical is canceled as well as digital unreleased games featured in the pack, due to the contents of several games in the pack not complying with current platform guidelines

Insulting to the players, insulting to the IP, insulting to the medium, the developers. And the craft itself. Fuck you executives who pushed this garbage.

I suspect this is unfortunately true for many, but as someone who has always devoted 100% attention to a game while playing (I refuse to play with podcasts/videos on, even when grinding in an MMO, as I think it's disrespectful to the devs) this makes me sad.

We've gotta fix this. Not just in games.
You wanna know why we're having nag line discourse in 2025? Because developers know we're fighting an attention economy war we'll lose no matter what. Players don't read, have TikTok open next to them, god forbid we are scared you miss something and then blame us for not giving you all the info.

After years of games (and movies, and TV shows) featuring reams of irony-poisoned dialogue, Lumines Arise's sense of really *meaning* what it "says" throughout is refreshing. And that, to me, is admirable.

Lumines Arise isn't "about" something specific in the same way a story-based game is, but it definitely has recurring themes, and one of the best things about it is that it has no shame about expressing those themes.

if you need any additional reasons not to cross the picket line here (you shouldn't, but still), Starbucks' CEO thinks his company that makes coffee and sells cakes should be "all-in" on AI for some inexplicable reason
As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

The Vangel is the most annoying dungeon in The Granstream Saga. So I thought I'd blast through it in one (long!) episode in the hopes of not having to fling my controller through the window after umpteen Mimic and Blob encounters. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXXY...

can I just say that the "tomatoes and broccoli" level on Lumines Arise is simultaneously wonderful and horrendous for those of us with a very specific kind of synaesthesia

The new Lumines has absolutely killer art direction precisely because it has zero fear of being perceived as corny. It will just throw every idea it has at you and maybe not all will land but at some point you WILL cry about how all humans are connected while matching broccoli and tomatoes onscreen

FULL DISCLOSURE in desperation, in my darkest hour, I did use CoPilot to try and fix a bug, but the code it spewed out was such absolute dogshit I couldn't have implemented it if I wanted to.
We don’t use generative AI at Strange Scaffold and I can confirm that a *lot* of other studios are not—whether indie or AAA.

Get outta here with this normalization bullshit.

what on earth would I use genAI tools for? Coming up with ideas? Writing? It’s shit at those

making 3D models? Coding stuff? It’s shit at that too

oh but it’s faster maybe? Did I mention it’s shit at things?

seems important

Wanna grab Lumines Arise, so thought I'd buy it on the PlayStation app and set it downloading while I make and have dinner.

Opened it up and it had logged me out.
Logged in and it wanted 2FA despite previously telling it to "Trust this device"
Gave 2FA and THEN app said it needed an update.
