hello new followers! I'm Tim, I've been working in games for about 20 years and been an #indiedev for 11

I think of myself as an artist/animator but do a lot of programming and design and collaborate with wonderful people

If we've learned anything from corporate grifts & failures, it's that the boy who pointed out that the emperor was naked would've been hanged before anyone admitted any wrongdoing.

The emperor would slowly begin wearing clothes again, claiming the old clothes just werent the right market fit.

As the year comes to an end, I'm reposting some of the comics I made this year, including this ridiculous thing.
A six-panel comic. In the first panel, a yellow warbler says "Hey so I'm going to go out on a limb here." In panels two through five, the warbler hops along a long branch against a blue sky with clouds. In panel 6, it stops at the end of the branch and sings.

The highlight of the day for me though was Choanji Temple in peak autumn foliage season.
The gate to the temple grounds. Behind it are a tree with bright yellow leaves and another with bright orange ones. Further down the path there is a tree with dark red leaves, too. Leaves are scattered on the path, corresponding in colour to each of the trees. A stone path leading to a small stone monument in the middle of a dark pond. The surface of the pond is covered in fallen autumn leaves. A statue of a small man riding a catfish also sits just above the surface of the water. Above are tree branches with leaves in almost every colour of the rainbow. Spectacular orange and red autumn leaves partially obscuring a structure on the temple grounds. The ground is covered in red leaves.

a common defence of genAI is it’s a tool, and tools are neutral and can be used in good or bad ways

but LLMs and transformers are tools - chatGPT is a *product*, openAI are using the tools in a bad way!

it‘s like arguing Amazon exploitative practices can be mitigated by shopping well with them

I've prioritized idiosyncratic floating-cursor aiming in Nightshift over generic rotation-based aiming to allow fixed-cameras and other "curated" arcade-style experiences, differentiating from generic shooters and feeling more "shmuppy".
