@exaggerated.bsky.social I'm enjoying FILLING YOUR WORLDS WITH WORDS and just got to the bit about the thumbs up gesture, which reminded me of some advice I got as a software engineer many years ago: never ever depict hands in a user interface. Whatever it is will be an internationalization problem.

My own experience with the shingles vax: #1 was mild. #2 I woke at 3am, shivering, put on an extra blanket, went back to sleep. From what I hear from family members, actual shingles is *vastly* worse. I am grateful that a vaccine is an option.

Back when there were drive-thru flu shot clinics in my area I’d invite lots of friends out for brunch and then caravanning down to get our shots. Harder to do in this day of making appointments ahead of time.
We know it! According to the cdc 25%of adults are afraid of needles & 16% avoid vaccines because of needle fear. Our pro vax comms needs to stop showing images of needles & stop using violent language like “jab” or “shot”
I think a huuuuuuge part of vaccine hesitancy is sublimated fear of needles

Today I'm cooking a prosciutto-wrapped roast beef tenderloin www.ibreatheimhungry.com/prosciutto-w... . I’m using 350°F and waiting for the thermometer to say it hit 135°F inside, which gets mostly medium rare, a little medium, a little rare.

When we brought Cleo home as a kitten back in 2000, I inadvertently stumbled on a wise strategy: cats get fed _after_ the human gets out of the shower and gets dressed. Training the cats on this has made it much easier to sleep in for any reason.

I dropped off my ballot at the library on Sunday afternoon and got notification that it was counted this evening. Vote-by-mail is very pleasantly low-stress.
