Our job is to keep showing up and taking care of each other.

And knowing when to pause to refill so we can go back to doing it more.

Everything else is commentary.

@darkhorse.com I got your "Holiday Savings from Dark Horse Digital!" email. Remember that comics collection I had with you on digital.darkhorse.com before you closed your service? Send me the whole thing as CBZ or PDF files, or as gifts at Kobo Books, and I'll consider spending money with you again.

@exaggerated.bsky.social I'm enjoying FILLING YOUR WORLDS WITH WORDS and just got to the bit about the thumbs up gesture, which reminded me of some advice I got as a software engineer many years ago: never ever depict hands in a user interface. Whatever it is will be an internationalization problem.

I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together.

(I often misattribute this to the "Walrus Sutra" when talking Buddhism.)

My own experience with the shingles vax: #1 was mild. #2 I woke at 3am, shivering, put on an extra blanket, went back to sleep. From what I hear from family members, actual shingles is *vastly* worse. I am grateful that a vaccine is an option.
Look, the shingles vax does kinda suck.

You know what is like 10,000 times worse? Shingles.
All over my FB people talking about their bad experiences with shingles vax and dissuading each other from getting it! We need to give people real info on how to mitigate the symtoms caused by vaccines because vaccines are always better than meeting a virus unprepared. Yet drs aren't coaching ppl

Back when there were drive-thru flu shot clinics in my area I’d invite lots of friends out for brunch and then caravanning down to get our shots. Harder to do in this day of making appointments ahead of time.
We know it! According to the cdc 25%of adults are afraid of needles & 16% avoid vaccines because of needle fear. Our pro vax comms needs to stop showing images of needles & stop using violent language like “jab” or “shot”
I think a huuuuuuge part of vaccine hesitancy is sublimated fear of needles

Today I'm cooking a prosciutto-wrapped roast beef tenderloin www.ibreatheimhungry.com/prosciutto-w... . I’m using 350°F and waiting for the thermometer to say it hit 135°F inside, which gets mostly medium rare, a little medium, a little rare.

When we brought Cleo home as a kitten back in 2000, I inadvertently stumbled on a wise strategy: cats get fed _after_ the human gets out of the shower and gets dressed. Training the cats on this has made it much easier to sleep in for any reason.

I dropped off my ballot at the library on Sunday afternoon and got notification that it was counted this evening. Vote-by-mail is very pleasantly low-stress.

Explain your username:

For 18 years, I had a silver tabby named Yeti; he’s in my profile picture. At one point I was explaining Runequest’s notion of heroquesting to a friend and had to make up some mythology on the spot, so the story had a “mithril tabby” in it. And I needed a unique username.
Explain your username:

Its my name.
explain your username:

all capoeiristas formally receive an insulting nickname based on their idiosyncrasies. my wrestling background led to several awkward in-game grappling situations, so mine is "lula" ("squid"). b/c that username's often taken online i further specified it to my favorite squid.

I’m surprised no one has created two-sided ebook readers where one side is a B&W screen to read the text and the other is a color screen to show the cover.
Every book is a contract with the reader stipulating that the book will, if read at a coffee shop, get you laid

@spaceboybooks.bsky.social The version of Jane Mondrup’s ZOI that you gave to B&N Nook has a problem with the header links to the style sheets and is unreadable to anyone who can’t manually hack the EPUB. Can you upload a fixed version?
