So much of the commentary on the FWS judgment has been driven by reflexive responses to the outcome, but there are so many gaps and leaps in its reasoning that it will spawn litigation for years to come - @aoifemod.bsky.social and I flag some failings in judge craft:

338,000 of traffic charges dropped in Ontario this year compared to 57,000 in 2019. Our court system is in shambles. Justice denied to seriously injured road users. Dangerous driving left undeterred and prolific. globalnews.ca/video/115724...

When I interviewed Spinal Tap and Marty DiBergi this summer, none of them broke character, for the whole hour. Except Rob Reiner, once, losing it when Michael McKean's David St Hubbins talked about minimalism. I didn't use this in the feature and hadn't published any audio, but this is joyful.

The problem here is semi-automation of cars has turned people into train drivers.

Train driving requires relatively little input BUT constant vigilence and attention.

Most humans are bad at this. Most of us couldn't safely drive a train.

Trains have a bunch of systems where drivers have to....

It is actually wild to think about how rare it is to have agency over what you consume. Our lives are dictated by algorithms. Streaming services & chain bookstores push items they deem “better” or “marketable”. In a library, our only qualifier to recommend titles is if we think YOU would like it

When transphobic “academics” complained about a supposed “chilling effect” on “research” of people saying it is transphobic, they got plenty of column inches.

Now that trans academics are facing actual heavy-handed chilling effects imposed top-down by government, the media (except THE) is silent.
When transphobic “academics” complained about a “chilling effect” on their “research” they meant people describing their transphobic “research” as transphobic.

Now there is a REAL chilling effect for trans academics of top-down establishment measures like fines & toilet bans.

We have the tools. The only thing missing is the political will to prioritize it. If we can clear a roadway, we can clear a bike path.

On top of the Micron/Crucial announcement of ending PC memory and SSD production, which has spiked memory prices through the roof, Samsung is apparently going to end their SSD production.

Unsure how we're all supposed to use AI when we have no computers.

Oulu is such a great example because it contains so many components which USA/Canadians say render cycling impossible in their countries: big open spaces and distances; bitterly cold winters; outdoors hunting a fishing culture.

All the reasons cited for needing TRUCKS.
UNINTERRUPTED CYCLING NETWORK.

In most cities, cycling involves a constant cycle of stop-and-go. You hit a red light, you wait for a turning truck, you yield to pedestrians. It kills the momentum.

Here in Oulu, the experience is completely different. Here’s why👇 1/3

6 years is all it takes.

Well it needs commitment too…..
“The transformation is astonishing. [Paris] has quietly—& quickly—become one of the most bike-friendly cities in the world. What started as a series of emergency “coronapistes” or pop-up bike lanes, built during the pandemic has evolved into a permanent bike network spanning hundreds of kilometres.”

Cycling through central Paris meant weaving between buses and scooters—a bold choice reserved for the fearless few.

I did an FOI with Dorset Council:

Q: How much parking charge revenue the Council loses because of free parking days.
A: This is data isn’t collected

Q: Data that shows free parking days support/boost the local economy as mentioned on the Council website.
A: There is no data collected for this

I just want some honesty about the motivations and trade-offs because without any evidence it's just a driving subsidy, especially when we know pedestrians spend most over time.

Will today, 14th Dec 2025, be the last day of a UK Gov 15-year era when it has had no English Road Safety Strategy. Whilst other UK nations have moved forward with their own RSS and the acceptance of 20mph as a transformational norm for communities, England is still locked in a postcode lottery.
