It’s 2040. The New Warriors movie is about to release. It’s made entirely with generative AI. If you don’t pay $700 to see it and clap whenever Speedball does something amusing, ICE agents denaturalize you on the spot and send you to an Argentinian city-sized megaprison

Jesus Christ, the "remastered" Beatles Anthology documentary they re-released is filled with AI slop. Look at John and Paul's faces, and the "T" on Beatles.

this is now a millennial anime gimmick fan account

all refutations of capitalist thought will be delivered in the style of Boogiepop Phantom
once you're done, if you haven't, go back and watch the original anime adaptation

it's flawed and suffers from budget and pacing problems and being unable to truly adapt the scope of where the manga was at the time in two cours and it's still one of the great creative works of 90's anime

You're also buying support for Vox Media, a company who spent the last year restructuring and laying off staff who were paid under collective bargaining agreements. The Verge seems to be begging users for subscriptions at this point; forgive me if appeals to its ethics policy seem laughable
Reminder that the thing you’re fundamentally buying when you subscribe to The Verge is our ethics policy: we don’t do brand deals and pretend they’re reviews and we insist companies (and the White House) be on the record if they want quotes in our stories. Worth it! www.theverge.com/ethics-state...

Some changes that they can look forward to:

for every 20 people you ask to just shut up and read Thomas Aquinas maybe one will actually do it and it's always something very special to witness
i have genuinely introduced less online evangelical friends to the medieval fourfold method of exegesis and it's blown their mind, so this happens a lot more than you would think
Tfw Bronze Age priests were more thoughtful, subtler writers than university students thousands of years later

The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate of any independent democracy on Earth, making it a leader in mass incarceration.

Far too many people are locked up in the “land of the free.”

it's kind of ridiculous how much of the LinkedIn feed is "you wouldn't believe how our small, scrappy team defrauded clients out of $800,000 over the course of six weeks"
Yet another prime case of Potemkin AI. I hate seeing an “AI notetaker” in a zoom call recording everything. In some cases, these notetakers were literally just a guy writing everything down. We too often see vaporous hype leading to the credulous embrace of fraudulent systems.

Absolutely disgusting that Trump would choose to pardon, even aid, a man who smuggled hundreds of tons of cocaine into the US while taking military action against other regimes under ostensibly the same pretense. Only the CIA is allowed to do that

1. Here on the Internet we sometimes speak of things that we believe should happen, not necessarily that will happen. We do this because the ability to envision a better world is fundamental to its creation.

NEVER HAPPENING.

Stop flailing at windmills and fight fights that can be won.

it is generally a bad idea to follow anyone on here whose entire posting history is a milieu of natsec and milint jargon and they seem to have a deep interest in getting you to pay close attention to specific nuances of military actions

just throwing that out there in case you're getting sucked in

It's pretty weird how it always seems to fall to the perennial "the left doesn't do anything" argument to justify compliance with authoritarianism as some principled middle ground. In what specific way is it our fault this time? Did we not vote for Harris enough? Grow a spine, you dweeb
tHeY'vE aLwAyS dOnE tHiS isn't just an insult to everyone who did in fact comply with LOAC/IHL in difficult situations but is, like many leftist formulations on here, a tacit argument to avoid ever doing anything about the right until the nonexistent revolution comes, since both sides are bad

Nobody is "clamoring" for this and it is extremely important to understand that, somehow even more now than it was during the invasion of Iraq, private interests are literally doing whatever they want and laundering their actions with a deluge of manufactured consent through media channels
Trying to not get consumed by it but as someone who lived through the catastrophe that was the Iraq War, it leaves me speechless that people are clamoring for invading Venezuela

To be clear about this, buying and returning paint sticks for $0.79 a pop doesn't actually do anything -- UNLESS you're buying them with a card and sticking these guys with processing fees, which remains a legitimate form of protest thanks largely to digital payment processing being a huge racket
I get it, it's not easy to hold anyone in ownership responsible, but you better be sure that this is costing the company real money or legitimately pushing them to action or all you're doing is making a bunch of minimum wage workers do extra work for nothing, and the bosses don't care about that
