Everything else aside, I’m always so distressed at how cheaply people sell their souls. Like if I was going to push pro-ICE propaganda online I’d need more than that $8 million just for myself
relevant to the debate over whether we should keep funding DHS without reforms and accountability for how out of control their spending is

A few months ago, ICE hired me

I didn't sign and submit any paperwork. I almost certainly failed the drug test. I'm real outspoken about my opposition to the Trump administration, and I am extremely googlable

And yet, there it was, in plain English. "Welcome to ICE!"

If there's one empirical insight I'd want everyone to understand about American politics, it's this:

America's problems are solved problems. Just not here.

What would change if the US simply matched the average of 31 peer democracies? Not Denmark or Norway. Just the middle of the pack. 🧵

It is difficult to explain how dire this situation is. There are 2,200 ICE agents in Minneapolis right now. They are heavily armed and are operating with no rules. The MPD only has 550 officers. StP even fewer. How can they protect us against an invading army? Because that's what this is.
Federal immigration officers are pulling out of a Louisiana crackdown and heading to Minneapolis in an abrupt pivot from an operation that drew protests around New Orleans and aimed to make thousands of arrests, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.

1) There's a classic analogy in political science: You have a town with a single road that extends for 10 miles in each direction. People are evenly distributed along the road. There's a hardware store in the middle of the town, and you want to compete with it. Where do you put your store?
This reminds me of similar articles about Fox News "straight news" reporters responding to the network's propagandistic coverage of Trump's first term -- eventually they were fired, driven out, or made their peace with what the outlet became.
"In conversations Tuesday with more than a half-dozen staffers and network insiders, two themes emerged again and again: deep embarrassment, coupled with growing alarm about where one of television’s most storied newscasts is heading" www.status.news/p/tony-dokou...
