The stories I have heard from friends and neighbors are heartbreaking and also make me proud to live in Chicagoland.
ICE has been cracking down hard across the vast expanse of the greater Chicago area, and I wrote a little bit about what you need to understand about what it’s like here now. Plus, I compiled some resources for locals to get alerts and whistles. dansinker.com/posts/202…

TFW you don't feel like you can professionally or ethically refer people to what should be a non-partisan website for information because of the racist, hateful, and false information placed on the banner of every @usdagov.bsky.social website.

The executive committee of the University Faculty Senate for the SUNY system issued a strong statement this week urging university leaders to reject the Trump compact. It's worth a read.

OMG yes!
You know what is a weird thing I miss about regular TV seasons?

Obligatory seasonal holiday episodes.

Like, no one dropping 8 episodes in July is going to give you an unhinged Halloween ep, a totally inappropriate murder on Christmas ep, and probably some weird Valentine's Day nonsense.

PEN reported 6,870 instances of book bans last year alone, meaning 6,870 times a books was removed from shelves or access was restricted. That number is not a typo. The number has tripled since 2021.

Hahaha truth
Same. I mean my answer would be something very antisocial like, "I have the requisite skill set to not pollute an entire community and boil the Great Lakes for something I will have to then edit anyway because the output is shit."
Anyway, may have just whiffed a job interview because they were like "Please tell us how you use AI in your daily work and how you would integrate it into the workflow of this position" and my reply was "Hard no"

Trump DOJ is looking at ways to ban trans Americans from owning guns. Since 2018:
•4 trans shooters means 2A is null & void
•4193 NON-trans shooters means 2A needs expansion

Here's a better idea: Solo men commit 94.6% of all mass shootings. Let's ban firearms from solo men & see how it goes.

If you’re writing an older character, you are not contractually obligated to make them:
•cranky
•incompetent
•hilariously baffled by technology

If they’re a woman, they don’t HAVE to call everyone “dear.”
If they are sexual, it doesn’t have to be played for laughs.

The lists are weighted by pubs, we all understand this, right? The only possible bestsellers, barring random Bigolus Dickolas activity, are the ones that enough copies were printed and people have heard of.

So what they're saying is "we are going to keep drowning you in this shit."

THIS
The position of the Supreme Court's majority is that the state may impose its will on transgender people's private medical decisions but our public existence is an unfair imposition on the lives of others
Sotomayor, in dissent, correctly says that today's decision in Mahmoud will lead public schools to simply censor books featuring LGBTQ characters and themes, creating "chaos" and stigmatizing children with LGBTQ families. This decision will lead to book bans.

"Unable to condone that grave misjudgement, I dissent," seems like it could be applied to many of the decisions this session.
In her dissent from today's decision—Mahmoud v. Taylor—Justice Sotomayor says that the court's holding "threatens the very essence of public education," and that its "reverberations" will be felt "for generations." This is a very heartfelt and mournful dissent. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

5. I can write better than ChatGPT.

So, in some ways, our question should be: how do we get students to a point where these things are true for them, too?

Being alive is an absolute farce, especially as a menopausal woman.

In one moment I am thinking about how to smash the patriarchy, white supremacy, and capitalism, and the next, I am looking up horny fancams and trying to remember the word for cabinets.

I literally started college at 16. It was amazing and set me up for success. Teenagers are intelligent and deserve the best.
Teens are uniquely silenced by Tx SB13 and HB3225. They purport to protect children, but don't distinguish between content for five year olds and 16 year olds. Our teens have the constitutional right to access age relevant content - novels, research and health materials, art books and more. #txlege
