"But I've also heard, in my inbox, from people who want to kill immigrants and protestors and anyone who opposes Donald Trump, who enjoy seeing them gunned down on TV, and who go to megachurches where they preach that empathy is a sin. And these people have families, too, as well as lots of money."

when you lose Kole Calhoun

not even the baseball player just any dude named Kole Calhoun
Former MLB OF Kole Calhoun speaks out. “What this administration is doing is blatantly racist…I’ve been silent because that is easy. I don’t care what side you’re on or who you voted for, this is wrong… Wake up! Speak out!”

When ICE comes to your town, you're on your own. No one is coming to help. That is very clear from everything we've seen, but the people of Minneapolis have demonstrated how local support networks and community solidarity can peacefully resist the injustice and occupation.

There's another way to look at this. ICE is doing everything the military manual tells you not to do to civilian populations because it creates insurgencies where none existed before.

if the TikTok acquisition by weird technofascist zealots follows the usual trajectory they'll spend much of this year insisting nothing has changed to avoid mass defection, only for everyone to steadily find that's a lie as the algorithm increasingly marginalizes or censors opposition voices

The people of Minnesota have executed one of the most impressive civil resistance campaigns I can remember:

- Organized a city wide general strike
- Maintained nonviolent discipline amidst violence
- Mobilized 10,000s in subzero temps to protest and watch ICE
- Flipped public opinion against ICE

The democrats handed conservatives the ability to suppress news on one of the biggest media platforms going right now. Just great work.
UPDATE: TIKTOK IS COOKED. Our videos went from tens of thousands to 0.

(seemingly a direct result of Trump & Bibi’s friends taking over)

It was kind of a tossed-off gag in a blog last week but the ICE/CBP forces in Minnesota really are an expansion team made up of the most readily available players in a depressingly glutted violence worker marketplace. Not even quad-A types. Independent league guys with well-known makeup issues.
Federal officers just came in and cleared the protest with tear gas. One officer asked press why we didn’t call 911 when the protesters were destroying the hotel and told us that we are bad Americans. Full video to come on @statuscoupnews.bsky.social

When he’s right, he’s right.
You don’t have to love everything outlets like the Times or Atlantic do to understand that:
-many talented people of good faith work for most mainstream outlets
-their platforms are vastly larger than ours

Our resistance will die in secrecy or win by rallying the world to our side

What these goons don't seem to realize is that decades of neoliberal policies have forced the work of care downstream--from the state onto families, and then onto women, who've had to get very good at caring for others through the crises that those same neoliberal policies tend to create.
I mostly just stay off Twitter altogether but after double checking that the Walter Hudson post was still up I ran across this and just had to share so the Romancelandians who bought hand warmers could hear about the PROFESSIONAL GRADE LOGISTICS.

They shot an unarmed mother in the face in front of her wife then called her a “fucking bitch”.

They kidnapped a five year old and used them as bait.

They deported a two year old despite a judge’s orders.

They maced, pistol whipped, and disarmed a nurse legally carrying then shot him nine times.

I have spent my entire adult life being lectured by Republican politicians and conservative legal movement types about how important it is to preserve the sacred constitutional right to self-defense of *specifically this person* and then secret police murdered him in the street
Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara says that the victim was a 37-year-old white man and US citizen with no criminal record and that he was a legally permitted gun owner.

We have been told for nearly 30 years that America needed to tolerate mass shootings because the broad availability of guns would help us defend ourselves from an overreaching federal government. That day has come. The people who said this are supporting the federal agents. Many have joined them.

A child should not suffer or be doomed to painful death because a parent is wilfully stupid or obstinate or loves Trump. And this isn't even about spreading to others. Children are not property. A parent treating them as such is why we're here now.
