Someone has just restored "Daicon 3" from a rare 8mm copy.
It's the best version to date.

Perfect screenshot. Worf as a focal point is already killer, then your eyes travel to Data in the friar haircut and you think "this can't possibly get any better," and then there's the finishing blow of Geordi in his space visor plucking a lute

there should be a term for this. over the last 3 years i have seen so many people get negatively polarized by social media into becoming an idiot
The pundit class, the political class… social media has broken so many brains via exactly this mechanism
related to this a lot of people in the pundit class need to learn how to just be annoyed by someone or something without turning it into What’s Wrong With America

Jesse Hamm had the take to end all takes on children's media. "People who disdain writing ‘just for children’ fail to realize that those children will remember what they read, maybe for the rest of their lives. You’re not writing for permanent children; you’re getting an early start on adults.”

Every time I return to LA I like to visit the giant vacant fucking lot near where I used to live in Chinatown, right next the $150mn metro station. I lived there in 2015. Ten years, three relationships, two graduate degrees, two presidents later, the lot remains. It will probably outlast me.
If there was any doubt that affordability is not is the platform of choice for Democrats in 2026, LA’s Mayor Karen Bass is making that clear in her reelection kickoff speech.

“LA is not for sale,” she says, to billionaires who are pursuing “public office as their vanity project.”

Honestly weird that the frontier models do not diverge that much in terms of abilities, prompt adherence, and other factors. Whether you pick any of the big American closed source models or the Chinese and French open models, they are all very similar to each other, and have been consistently.

one of my longstanding takes is that car manufacturers should be forced to install mandatory speed limiters in every new vehicle and people react to that like I'm advocating to strip them of their right to free speech

In the last Presidential election several people saw it as a choice between the usual political corruption and lots and lots and lots of open corruption and they chose the latter.

That isn't even as smart as cynicism.

During the presidential election I thought that by around now we would be looking back thinking it was really weird AI was barely a topic. I don't think we're there yet, progress has been slower than I expected

(There has still obviously been a lot of progress)

One of the most baffling yearly trends endure on sites like this are people discussing how much they don't care about various award shows. Year after year the same people saying this. You know what I don't care about? The French National Cricket team. That's why you've never heard me talk about it!

Indiana’s Senate has voted AGAINST the GOP gerrymander that’d have locked in a 9-0 map.

This keeps the 7-2 map in place, saving two Democratic seats heading into 2026.

The vote failed big, 19/31.

The MAJORITY of the GOP senators opposed it!

BREAKING: For a second time in a week, a grand jury in Virginia has REFUSED to INDICT NY AG Letitia James .

99.6% of all cases presented to a federal grand jury result in an indictment.

The chances of the same case being brought to a grand jury and failing twice are about 1:40,000
