what I like most about this era is that it didn't feel like fighters were specifically pidgeonholed into one specific thing, Soulcalibur was considered one of the best games of all time to that point. Not just best fighting game, best game. Kind of impossible to imagine that happening ever again

the "dark age of fighting games" describes the period of time roughly between the obsolescence of the Arcade scene and the mainstreaming of online gaming- despite the name it doesn't mean FGs as a genre were in a bad place, they were just in a very different and highly experimental one

Well I say "modern reputation" but I think the game is a lot more well regarded now than it was when it was released, but it's still kind of a shame when someone tries to play it for Memes but every time theyre like "oh whoops I didnt know it uses pressure buttons oh well"

I wonder how much of the modern reputation of The Bouncer is colored by the fact that a good portion of your character's moveset is locked behind unemulatable pressure sensitive buttons.
