Theme park abundance seems like something we could achieve
On some level I feel like “Disney parks are very expensive and the lines for the big rides are still oppressively long” is part of the affordability debate and people’s dissatisfaction with the economy.

It's too late, you should just get used to a very unfavorable map for the 2030s.
NEW: The next US Census likely won’t be good for New York. The state is projected to lose two congressional seats, and with them, two electoral votes for president.

One reason why blue states are losing ground: The red states build far more housing than they do.
New York Could Lose Seats in Congress Because It Won’t Build Housing
As housing construction booms in red states, blue states are falling behind. That will likely boost Republicans in federal politics.

as I have said for years it is actually wild that these people are not merely convinced that AI is bad (ok) but that it is and will remain ineffective (moronic)

1. LA’s political class are maybe the least sympathetic group of people in this entire state. Their frantic crying here makes me wonder why they think anyone would care.

2. Zev Yaroslavsky being the voice of reason for once in his life adds a good comedic element to this piece.

The bottom quartile of income earners are mostly young people, former criminals, and recent immigrants, all groups who literally don't/can't vote lol. You really have to help them only out of the goodness of your heart because you won't be rewarded for it lol.
One of my black pill moments was that Biden actually focused on lifting the lowest quartiles up at the expense of the rich and the online left screamed at him about student loan forgiveness.
The vibecession was primarily driven by lower sentiment among the upper and middle classes, not the lower classes.

Everything said here is just like, objectively true
LLMs are capable of certain forms of introspection and have really good theory of mind. They have increasing levels of situational awareness (which is making it difficult to test them because they know they’re being tested!) I personally don’t think they’re conscious but it’s not a settled question.

this man was screaming outside of my hotel when I got in. He was screaming 30 minutes later when I left. He was screaming 2.5 hours later when I returned. I've been back for 30 minutes and I can still hear him screaming from my window. I genuinely think this is his daily life

anyway. i feel that I can no longer rule out the singularity in the sense of recursively self improving ai rapidly achieving superhuman intelligence. I just think if it happens it will be an utterly immiserating event for humanity
I find it very funny when AI guys say that the purpose of human life after the singularity will be space exploration, when that’s something meatsacks are extraordinarily poorly suited for
it's funny how many people this is a sacred cow for

At this point it is clear that humans will not be in control of our own future and so far we are on track for capitalistic race dynamics being what decides the type of AI that controls it instead. I'm no capitalism hater but this seems extraordinarily dangerous???
