I really want ppl w/o Minneapolis connections to understand

You might've heard that Mpls public schools went hybrid bc so many families are in hiding. Well, a coworker just told me that today, during his kid's hybrid class, a kid's apt building was raided onscreen

the thing about “ICE needs training” is that Jonathan Ross was a ten year DHS vet and a firearms instructor

he’s the kind of guy they get training from

the whole institution is rotten, throw it out
Democrats officially going all in on the mealy mouthed “ICE needs training” narrative.

No. ABOLISH ICE.
WARNER: It used to take 5 to 6 months to get trained. They've now lowered the training period to 47 days. Why 47 days? Because Donald Trump's the 47th president. Tell me that's a rational approach

KERNEN: I'm not taking that bait

WARNER: Joe! You can't pick your facts

“The most pernicious aspect of ChatGPT is how it isolates minds.”
There is an essential & extremely generalizable point here.

Critical thinking is a team sport. We all need metacognition buddies because human brains. It doesn't matter how quote unquote smart you are. Especially in the slop times.

The most pernicious aspect of ChatGPT is how it isolates minds.
The thing that jumps out to me here is that the article says the doctor’s *colleague* went looking for the fake studies.

It suggests the doctor who used ChatGPT didn’t check for himself and uncritically assumed they were real.

A lot of people are fighting over whether or not watching a video of someone's death makes you a better activist or person and I would like to gently suggest that what you do in response to the video's existence is what matters, whether you watched it or not.

They get to “fear for their lives” and defend themselves. The public cannot. Police have a monopoly on violence that’s upheld by the legal system and cultural conditioning that convinces us the police are righteous defenders of the public.

Please don't sleep on this paper by researchers at the now-shuttered Stanford Internet Observatory. purl.stanford.edu/jv206yg3793 One of its coauthors, David Thiel, offered some expert perspective in the CNBC story I worked on with my colleagues, linked above.

A joint report between the Stanford Internet Observatory and Thorn examines implications of fully realistic child sexual abuse material (CSAM) produced by generative machine learning models. Advanc...

As someone who literally builds and maintains systems that identify, remove, and report CSAM, I am watching the Grok story unfold with horror.

Not that anyone in the field is surprised this is where we landed.

My insurance started the Deny, Delay... process with my biologic infusions and they are absolutely not ready to handle the fight I am bringing to them.
Bridge therapy is keeping me stable for now but I will not risk my cognitive function to save them a few thousands dollars. I will not stop.

I’ve always held that it’s about a model of society we want to establish & maintain. The ableist notion of ‘accommodations have gone too far’ is not even a stone’s throw away from ‘there’s too much diversity’ or that ‘women are the weaker’ whatevs. Disability justice is tied to all forms of justice.
We need to be able to see that the line "accommodations have gone too far" is an expression of the ableist notion that disabled students do not belong in higher ed. Its fundamentally an anxiety about the fact that disabled students get an "advantage" over abled students.
