My friend at UT Austin reports campus lawyers have instructed individuals and departments to scrub public websites of any reference to diversity, equity and inclusion. Her whole job is researching UT's resistance to desegregation. Things are bad, y'all.

I don't have anything new to say about the fact that Palestinians are human beings whose lives are sacred and Israelis are human beings whose lives are sacred and all people must be safe and free and hostages must come home and another world is possible.

Will keep screaming & weeping myself hoarse.

If you'd like to learn more, there's a wealth of data here:

www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CFH...

(I believe this is the study referenced?)
In a new study of 2million CA births, the richest Black mothers & their babies are 2x as likely to die as the richest white mothers & their babies.

Rich & poor mothers were equally likely to have high-risk pregnancies, but the poor mothers were 3x as likely to die — even w/in the same hospitals.

Secondly, how on earth can a judgement be made about whether a nonspeaking person has an understanding of language, if the only AAC they've even been offered is a set of picture cards for food items, 'help' and 'toilet'.

That's the reality of AAC support for too many autistic people in the UK.

I've reached a new stage of cuddling with my cat. Now, when I pick her up and hug she actively relaxes, rather than simply not tensing up. And she's letting me hold her for way longer.

Someone on Twitter said this would discriminate against people with speech disorders, and actually that discrimination already happens! I had a neighbor when I lived in Houston who had speech impairment from a stroke and an ER tried to deny her care because they thought she was just drunk.

since allistic people think ABA is a great way to train autistic people how to communicate with everyone else, can we use ABA to train allistic people how to communicate with us?

If you’re going to protests right now, please wear an n95 or equivalent mask or respirator. Continue to protect yourself and others from COVID and act in solidarity with disabled folks. Plus it’s great to not have your face all over social media when you are participating in rallies and marches.

If a professional tells you to grieve your Autistic loved one's diagnosis, stop seeing that professional.

No matter their struggle. They have value, they have life.

Do not grieve the living. Grieve the society that views disabled people as something less than alive.

Advocating for yourself as an autistic human in public isn’t a small feat.

It’s a huge victory and not only helps you, but all autistic people.

What autistic kids need is support and understanding, not "therapies" like ABA that are based on abusive tactics and rely on masking and other ways to basically try to "fix" the autistic person. It's traumatic. Fun fact: most insurance will fully cover ABA but not other forms of actual support.

I have a lot of issues with people who calls themselves "Autism Parents" or "Autism Moms" because 1. uh, you child is autistic, not you, don't center yourself like that it's weird 2. they generally only focus on the challenges, think ABA is "helpful", and often are anti-vaxx.
