Mountains are among the most sensitive places on Earth to climate change. People who live there know about the glacier melt, changes in vegetation etc. I remember well an older gentleman from the Oztal in Austria who was a naturalist and explained to us what he's seen.

At present the issue is how to reinforce existing infrastructure or fortify shoreline, or relocate, Indigenous villages. In future decades major coastal cities around the world will face the same dilemma. Metres of sea-level rise are committed, even if we succeed in reaching net zero.

This is not a peace plan. It is a proposal that weakens Ukraine and divides America from Europe, preparing the way for a larger war in the future. In the meantime, it benefits unnamed Russian and American investors, at the expense of everyone else.

This is why I advise in The Language of Climate Politics that saying we’re better off now than we were before the Paris Agreement only lowers urgency & helps fossil fuel interests: the IMPACTS of lower levels of heating are proving to be so much worse than we thought even just ten years ago.
