I think the reason for this is that most cis people think it is good. They see themselves as having a right to do it and they enjoy doing it, so they can never align themselves with anyone proposing to end their right to do it.
It's exasperating that so much sexual harassment trans women receive as part and parcel of transmisogynistic abuse we're subjected to constantly, simply doesn't get acknowledged or remarked upon, but that is what it is; sexual harassment that is meant to shame and humiliate us.
