One court decision, two different headlines.

Guardian on the left, NY Times on the right. Which one more directly conveys information and the stakes to the reader?

i think this is correct and i think what it exposed is that our regular legal order was fundamentally incapable of overcoming partisan polarization to impose said consequences
i feel that the failure to impose any consequences on Trump for January 6 is the root cause of everything bad that is happening now

i understand that some people are of the opinion that if we'd only prosecuted harder, better, or faster that could have worked, but like, we tried from a bunch of different angles in a bunch of different venues with a bunch of different teams and it didn't.

Let tonight be a lesson to all of us: Make sure you have established your own, and are aware of your loved ones', advance directives.

Do you want to be awakened from your slumber when It Happens? Or do you want to find out when you awake naturally and unlock your phone? Let your loved ones know.

Every day we all have to think about one of the most irredeemable cunts in the history of the world. What’s he doing? What’s he said now? How will it affect your life? What will be left once he’s finished smashing it all up? It’s unconscionable

Here in Europe we can only dream of having a leader who is so honest with citizens. Can you imagine a Europe where we had someone like Carney as 🇪🇺President?

Instead we're stuck with von der Leyen, Rutte, Starmer, Merz, Meloni. Maybe they will actually listen to what Carney is telling them (🧵6/6)

🇨🇦PM Carney just schooled our cowardly European leaders at #Davos. This speech was clearly aimed at them:

"We must actively take on the world as it is, not wait around for a world we wish to be."

"What does it mean for middle powers to live the truth? First it means naming reality..." (🧵1/6)

This one will knock your socks off.

Animals are so much smarter than we give them credit for.

My dog definitely understands the buttons & the ones she uses most are yes and no.

Government services should not be run "for profit." They are not losing money, they COST money. You pay taxes, you get back service. It really is a simple idea. Why do so many (conservatives) struggle with the concept?

Free add-on: news shouldn't be for profit either. It should just be the news. 😝

Even on the Kitchen Table Issues, a large share of voters simply believes things that are detached from empirical reality. Different candidates, different messaging/tone, or even different policy positions are not solutions to this problem, nor is Underpants Gnoming away Fox News & social media 🤷‍♂️
👇🎯 People simply believe materially false things about the economy right now. @prowag.bsky.social & I just surveyed 2000 people in 🇺🇸 last week & found exactly the same thing. 45% said they didn't receive Covid checks. 40% think 🇺🇸 is in a recession. 44% think inflation stayed the same/📈 in 2024. Etc.

Once again, I don’t know what to do with the Takes™️ from Ezra Klein, Andy Beshear, & everyone else about What Democrats Must Do™️ to reach out to Real Folks about Kitchen Table Issues, when the new political reality in 🇺🇸 is that large shares of voters simply believe the sun rises in the West
Over 80% of swing voters who chose Trump believed Harris held positions she didn’t campaign on in 2024, including supporting taxpayer funding for transgender surgeries for undocumented immigrants (83%)...decriminalizing border crossings (77%), and defunding the police (72%).
