The Harper's letter signers were right!
In the Harper's Letter, one of the things they got right was this:

"The forces of illiberalism are gaining strength throughout the world and have a powerful ally in Donald Trump, who represents a real threat to democracy."

So, here it is.

A new kind of monitor can follow you around the house. "They’re expensive. They’re not for everyone. Yet I can’t help but think they’re really cool," our Wirecutter tester writes.

A new kind of monitor can follow you around the house. Most people won’t need one.

I give you 5,000 words on Las Vegas, a city in flux. All year long I read headlines about how tourism to the Strip had sharply declined in 2025, so I went there for 3 days in October to soak in the vibe. Ultimately this is a story about why the city is Good and why the death of Vegas would be Bad.

Why are people talking about this story. It's completely unremarkable. It shouldn't be covered by the New York Times or Telos News. How dare anyone give any attention to this at all

Of course what is actually noteworthy about the Nuzzi story is how unique it is. The American media class is not at large having sexual relationships with their story subjects, regardless of what Hollywood tells you

This is weird with the current government but the state has a legitimate monopoly on violence in a way that social media posters do not
okay so why is this post still up & account still existing? actual question. the account isn’t even verified like some of the other fed gov accounts either, but also it shouldn’t matter when they post “we will kill you” along with videos of them killing people.

If they win zero votes and lose nonzero votes they should be discarded
my wokest opinion is that land acknowledgements are fine. people knowing a little bit about the land you're on, even if one isn't invested in a land back project, is not particularly worse than the status quo, even if one comes by this info in a way that is somewhat cringe and forced
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Spanberger had votes that cut both ways. She had one of the most centrist voting records of anyone in Congress, including by breaking with Dems and voting for GOP immigration legislation with titles like the "Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act"
This has gotten lost: Abigail Spanberger won big after vowing to RESCIND Glenn Youngkin's executive order directing local cooperation with ICE and voting AGAINST the anti-immigrant Laken Riley Act. Yet she gained bigly with working class.

Working in actual nonprofits radicalized me to giving cash (and supporting overhead costs)
There’s a flood of (well meaning!) influencers doing splashy shopping trips for pantries and I recall what an abortion provider said: orgs need money, but donors give only what they want to, not necessarily what’s needed. Hence the offers for a couch to crash on post-abortion and not $ for a hotel.
spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

this is a film franchise where the first time they switched actors, George Lazenby looked into the camera and said "this never happened to the other fella"
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

Everybody agrees now that "affordability" is the key political issue of our time.

But what does this mean when inflation-adjusted wages and household income are higher than ever?

Trump enters the same pain cave that bedeviled Biden.
