If we just said "Japanese animation" and "Japanese comics" instead of their special little words of "anime" and "manga" there would be no confusion.
We don't call Japanese films "eiga" or Japanese food "washoku."

I don't like that the word anime became a mark of quality that people outside of Japan tried to chase. I wish we just said "Japanese animation." If you live in the US you're not making Japanese animation, you're making cool American animation inspired by your favorite stuff from Japan! That's great!
